Read Helm Graycastle On Hoopla... pretty art, but it's promise of writing a story to provide a good story of Aztec culture from a Mexican PoV definitely failed.. the plot is a bit of a hot mess... I wonder if it was actually someone's D&D campaign first, and not a the other way around.
I did think of MRP when I was reading it though... 1/2 the trade is a D & D module, complete with maps, DM info, stat blocks for all the characters and bad guys, the works... so in that sense it's totally worth it. As a good comic trade, not so much.

There's a comic called Rolled & told that does the same thing I believe (I have the giveaway promo they did that does it and have seen other issues on the stands). -M

Supergirl: Being Super #1-4 First two issues were fairly decent; the cracks started showing in the third; the fourth issue was a complete misfire. In the end, just an unimaginative and unnecessary reimagining bolstered by good art. 5/10 I Actually liked this mini series

On a different subject I've been reading Aaron's run on the Avengers and it's been pretty fun so far. I think my only complaint is that Aaron tends to move onto the next big idea before finishing the one he's on, but otherwise its a great run so far.

I'll either read that that or get the trades at some point... I liked his Thor, but I agree he's not great at finishing what he starts (alot of modern comic writers struggle with that). Read the first HC of IDW's TMNT reboot (which shockingly is actually technically almost 1/2 'classic' now).. I really liked the update/reboot.. a great mix of all the different versions into a cohesive whole.. I'll definitely read more at some point

The last year hasn't been as great but it looks like they have a new direction coming up which might get things back on track.

(Seems like it based on the contents of the volumes, but we'll see)

Since this is a catchall thread for modern comics (i.e. comics of the last 10 years), I think this is the best place to post this (rather than giving it its own thread). We often talk about the dearth of new characters at Marvel and DC in the modern era, but I am going to say here, te best new character introduced in Marvel Comics of the last decade is by far and away Bats, the (now ghost) dog and companion of Dr. Strange! he's adorable, has the best lines, says the things you as a reader want to say to the characters at times, and steals the show in just about every scene he is in. He doesn't have a costume, or powers, but man, I could read stories with him in it all day long. -M

Bats sounds cool!
My favourite new characters in the previous decades were Cosmo and Lucky. I think it shows that the Marvel Universe needs more dogs!
