I see that mate, but to be honest I think the strip is a shadow of its former self, and his art has got a bit loose for my taste. To be fair its probably the way they allow for modern coloring to shade things, compared to the way he would in his older style. ...still, any Alpha is better than none, I'll just crawl back into my cave now.

Got a couple of Marvel trades for cheap from a book market. They had quite a few interesting ones that I already had (collection of the Casey Deathlok series, old Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD collections, Lee&Kirby Inhumans collection, 70s/80s Starlord collection) and a lot of recent ones (Aaron's Wolverine and the X-Men, Robinson's FF, Ostrander Quicksilver and a couple of other ones). I picked up Cullen Bunn's Magneto vol 2, Cornell/Anka's Wolverine vol 2 and Revolutionary War. The first 2 because they were cheap, the last one because it had Lanning and GIllen and is Marvel UK's revisited. Not a chance to read them yet, but fun to see Dark Angel and Death's Head II again. Not a chance to read them yet, but will come back to you on that.
Also got Cutting Edge #4 on the European front, which was a big disappointment (I've read this one as you can see): it has some characters with very complicated time-travel curse/power that when you start to think about it completely falls apart and which never is made that important in the plot. There are some interesting ideas, but mainly 1 and 2 were very promising, but this is the final issue and things didn't work for me.
Also in singles got Mockingbird (best CWII tie-in so far), Black Panther (slow, but very interesting), The Fix (as always really good), Deathstroke and Doom Patrol (already reviewed by others). Maybe if I have time I can make a decent review for any of those.

Still reading my way through The Goon collection.
Liking it, but not loving it like I thought I would, though it did make me laugh out loud at one point last night.
Powell is definitely talented, but an editor's help with the overall narrative would give this the polish it needs to really shine IMO.

I read the fist big giant Goon hardcover a while back, it was definitely entertaining, but it didn't make we want to read more... about mid-way through it started feeling like the same things over and over again.

I've read the Goon vol 6 from the Dark Horse Humble Bundle and that had more going on (a more equal foe for the Goon, some more emotional content for the Goon and his past) I should do write up a bit on the Dark Horse Humble Bundle because it had a lot of different things in it, a lot of it very neat, but I haven't finished everything yet.

Britannia #1. My intial impressions of it were a bit mixed as I was expecting a Victorian themed Magnus: Robot Fighter, not "Caligua and the Eldritch horrors"
It wasn't bad, just rather peculiar, it doesn't read like something that takes place in the Valiant universe at all

As said, I got a few trades for cheap at the book market, so here's some mini-reviews.
Cullen Bun's Magneto volume 2: suffers a lot from having the Axis crossover in it, though I like Magneto gathering villains to fight the Red Skull because none of them would like to live in a world ruled by the Red Skull.
Wolverine: 3 months to die part 2: Really weak for a Cornell work even though the core concept is good. Wolverine has lost his healing powers and has to deal with no longer being able to just jump into combat, even with a fear of battle, but I expect more from Cornell. I do like the annual, because I love single-mom Jubilee as a character and the more comics use her that way, the better.
Revolutionary War: a minor event that uses the Marvel UK characters, it follows the better formula for crossovers and events IMHO (an opening, the chapters in between being independent and a closing chapter). It has several writers and artists, so the quality fluctuates a lot, but it was definitely the most interesting of the 3 trades (probably because the Marvel UK characters are used so little). The best chapters were Dark Angel (I'm actually pretty interested in that character now, so I'm looking to see if I can get her old series somewhere), Motormouth and Death's Head. The opening and closing work well, but the chapter about the Knights of Pendragon (which used to be a pretty good series back then) is disappointing and the Super Soldiers part is just bad.

Lake of Fire #1 - This is a new series from Image. Premise is aliens land in the French mountains in the middle of the crusades. Story seems to be centered on a couple of inexperienced knights. Artwork style reminds me a bit of The Sixth Gun or some European album artists as it's got that clean style line. Pretty good read and I liked it enough I'm going to get the second issue.
Black Monday Murders #1-2 - This one is an occult murder mystery and conspiracy series. Basic premise is that minions of elder gods run Wall St. and it lays out a back history tied to stock market disruptions. Murder happens in NYC office and a detective with a background in voodoo investigates. It's a dense read as there is quite a bit of text and graphics on the backstory. It's a comic that will actually take a bit of reading. Artwork is well done. Added it to my pull list.
Kill or Be Killed #1-2 - This is another Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips comic, so for me it's a must read. If you have read any of their other series, you know the quality. It's a 'revenge' story like Death Wish and there are twists, so I'll just let you find them on your own.
Seven to Eternity #1 - This is a new comic by Rick Remender and Jerome Opena. This is a fantasy with some science fiction elements comic based on a war with a big bad that has conquered the world and one family just tried to run from but has caught back to them. Artwork is very lush. It looks somewhere between Flash Gordon and is by Remender's words inspired by Jodorowsky/Moebius' comic works. First issue is just setup as this looks to be more of a long run series, but it was good.
Outcast Vol. 3 - This series is a pretty slow mover, but we are finally starting to see behind the curtain on what is going on with the demonic possessions from the other two trades. Paul Azaceta's artwork is really good, I've liked everything I have ever seen by him. He did a couple of crime mini-series with Mark Waid called Potter's Field that are worth pulling out of dollar box if you see them (and that's where I found them).

Peter Milligan is solid in my book. My impression is that this doesn't take place in the Valiant U but I can't find where they actually state if it does or not. I think Valiant is afraid if they say it's not part of the VU, then less people will buy it, but I could be wrong. Read Doom Patrol # 1 last night as I was going to bed. My Ambien sometimes affects my recall. I do remember liking it but am going to re-read tonight before I take my Ambien.

Last night read Powerman and Iron Fist #8. Really enjoying and liking this take of the duo. It has humor, style, flair and works in its own way within the Marvel universe. Both Luke and Danny show their friendship and love for each other openly and honestly. Their inter-actions with the New York city denizens of the B-world criminals and heroes reflects their street level credibility. This is just a truly fun comic to be reading and i hope it lasts a long while. While many are polarized by Sanford Green's art i think it is amazing and fits this series perfectly. One of the best reads and the ONLY Marvel comic i am currently getting each month. And that is the Fiddle Faddling Paddy Whacking truth!

I have been collecting the Titan comic series which team up the new versions of the Doctor and avoiding the single season series. Read the 4th Doctor Who mini-series issues 1-5. Felt just like watching an old episode of the Doctor. Captures quite well the Tom Baker version of the Doctor travelling with Sarah Jane Smith. The villain(s) all feel as though they could be part of the show and they even work in an Easter egg reference of the Weeping Angels as the Doctor mentions them in passing as a supposed myth. The artist catches the characters likeness quite well and the art is clean, smooth and looks nice. The story is interesting and avoids being silly or too intricate. All in all a very enjoyable romp reliving the good old days. Hoping the 3rd Doctor mini-series proves just as pleasurable a read!

With Luke Cage Netflix debut, Comixology has had some Cage on sale, including the first five issues of the current series. Probably going to read them tonight. Looking forward to it. Enjoyed my subscription way back in the Bronze Age. Sanford Green's art looks like a great fit for it too.

I read Descender Vol. 2 (quite the cliffhanger ending, grrr, how long to volume 3?) and Velvet Vol. 3 this evening. Enjoyed both immensely. Descender is beautiful, smart sci-fi with some incredible worldbuilding behind a great story and interesting characters, while Velvet is an espionage page turner of the best sort with a phenomenal lead character, a lush rich world that has the verisimilitude to allow the story to be pulled off as a period piece without having to skimp on the fantastic gadgets and wild plot twists that make the book so fun.

Couple things that don't go in the review threads: TMNT Universe #1 - Not sure if this connects to the current continuity or not, but it was a good set up for the turtles being hounding by a group called the 'Earth Protection Force' that hates Mutants.. kinda going for a bit of an X-Men vibe, and it was pretty cool with good art. The best part (even though it's only 4 pages) is a Leonardo backup with him fighting some ninja... written by Eastman and art by Bill Sienkiewicz.. great title to pick up if you want Turtle goodness without trying to figure out where the back story is at right now. Black Panther vol. 1 - Really great art, but the story left me a bit confused and a bit unsatisfied... it seems a neighboring country is trying to destablize Wakanda by claiming T'Challa is too involved with the rest of the world to care about them, and they've subverted some of the royal guard women to help them.. or maybe they revolted on their own, it's not clear. As someone who didn't really read much Hickman, I felt pretty confused, and VERY little moved forward in the 4 issue trade. Pretty, though .
