Just read the first two issues of Foolkiller, that rarest of things, a Marvel title that embraces and builds on past continuity! Greg Salinger has built a new life as a psychotherapist sice giving up the identity of Foolkiller, but hisinability to prevent a tragedy pushes him back into the mask...and now, it looks like his short lived successor from the 90s is going to come after him! I love it when they remember the obscure characters... Was debating whether I should check this out or not. I'm a big fan of the Steve Gerber series. The new look of the character has kinda turned me off though.

The new look of the character has kinda turned me off though. I suppose it was inevitable, now that every costume at Marvel has to look 'realistic' and, if possible, vaguely militaristic. Salinger at one point refers to his original outfit as "there I was, looking like Zorro's dandy cousin"...

A Couple more minis I had saved for reading until they were all out:
Jackboot and Ironheel - A 40s soccer star turned tail gunner is captured and imprisoned in an old castle, where an evil curse is doing bad things to the Germans in charge. Some fun Cthulu-ism art and a good story... the main character (Eddie) is pretty good, too. Good little series, especially if you're a WWII person.
Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy - When I saw this was coming out, it seems likely to be amazing, but the creative team was from neither book, and as a result what you get is a fan fic that doesn't really capture any of the character particularly well, and an art style that tries to split the two and fails. Not a bad story, if you take it as is, but definitely a little disappointing overall.

The Vision #1-6
I read the first trade of this series and I find that the hype surrounding this run is worthy. Tom King has the Vision creating his ideal nuclear family: wife Virginia with twin kids Vin and Viv. He sets up home in a suburb of Washington DC in hopes of attaining a normal human lifestyle.
But the Grim Reaper disrupts this with his arrival to see this new surrogate family and the situation spirals quickly. Lies and cover-ups ensue as the consequences of certain actions (and in-actions) threaten this ideal as they spread throughout this community. The twins, enrolled in school, deal with their own problems as they seek to fit in with their schoolmates.
It's an examination of 'what does it mean to be normal' and how far one could possibly go to attain this seemingly impossible ideal. King employs heavy narration here but the tone and quality of the narration enhances the book's mood and demeanor. It's like watching a train slowly yet inevitably derail. Walta does a phenomenal job on the art. Vision may not lend himself to the greatest ability to emote facially (a trait shared by his family) but Walta portrays the emotions brought on by the events of the story very well. Combine that with King's unique narration and you have a Marvel book quite unlike any I've read before.
'Cause let's face it, until now, I never knew I needed a Vision dog.

For those here who don't mind reading comics digitally, there is a free service called Hoopla that works in cooperation with public libraries. It allows you to read books, including comics (collected editions) for free, provided you have a valid card from a participating library. They have a large selection that appears to be mostly Image and DC/Vertigo, including some of DC's Rebirth stuff.

I treated myself to some of Titan Comic's Doctor Who collected hardcovers for Christmas. Today I caught up with the Eighth Doctor A Matter of Life and Death volume written by George Mann. It's well written and the artwork is beautifully done, a thoroughly enjoyable story that brings the Eighth Doctor to life visually again. Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor gets a new companion too, Josie, who the five stories basically revolve around. All in all, a good read and hopefully we get more Eighth Doctor and Josie from Titan at some stage.

I've just finished reading the second trade paperback of the rebooted Archie and I really like this series. I was never a devout fan of the character or comics (though I was certainly aware of them) but the Mark Waid run is great and some of the art (mostly by Fiona Staples and Veronica Fish) is fantastic - simple and clear but very expressive.

Couldn't agree more.
Up until a couple of years ago I'd never owned or read a single Archie comic except for their Red Circle line.
Read the first issues of Archie, the Black Hood, and Sabrina and liked them all !

Been binge reading DC's new Flintstones book, which is surprisingly very good, incredibly funny, and even endearing. An interesting addition is the fact that Barney and Fred are War Vets and during one of their group therapy sessions, it's mentioned that "Yabba-Daba-Doo!" is a nonsensical phrase intended as a coping mechanism for stressful situations
