I'm really liking the superman and batman rebirth titles. Thanos by Marvel has been surprisingly good too. Problem is they plan on making it and ongoing series and I always felt this title s better as a limited series

Read some modern stuff out form the library...
Titans Hunt tpb-decent but not spectacular. Abnett had a decent story to tell, but inconsistent art with poor panel to panel and page to page storytelling techniques dragged it down a bit in my estimation. Could have been much better in the hand of a better visual storyteller, or even a single artist on the series instead of rotating pencillers making it look like a mismatched mess with some panels that only seemed tangentially related to the story being told on the page. Body language and facial expressions that matched what the story implied the characters were feeling would have gone a long way towards making this a better read as well.
Paper Girls Vol. 1 & 2-I picked up the first issue for a buck at a con last year, and liked it when I read it, but not enough to rush out and get the first trade, but when I saw our library had the first 2 volumes, I checked them out and now I'm hooked. Some of the future dialogue dialect is annoying, a tic that doesn't enhance the storytelling effect and takes me out of the reading experience instead of giving the scenario more verisimilitude, but that's my only complaint.

The collected first 6 issues of the Lemire/Smallwood Moon Knight.
So far, not my cup of tea: I never like it when they write Mk as psychologically unstable, unable to distinguish fantasy from reality, suffering from multiple-personality disorder, or what have you, and that's the approach Lemire's taken. Or possibly it's all a conspiracy by unknown enemies to make him appear that way, to himself and others. Whether it's one, the other, or neither, it seems to me that the story doesn't progress much over the course of this first collection, though of course that could change with hindsight, depending what happens down the road.
Of course, if I was enjoying the journey more this wouldn't matter too much. But as it is, I'm left with the feeling that I should have waited until another collection or two appeared before starting this one, and now I'm not sure I want to stick with it long enough to find out if it can eventually win me over. I'll probably wait until Lemire's entire run is finished and then decide.

Yeah, Bendis did that, too.. it was interesting for an issue or two, but I think it was just too much, you know?
I generally stay away from Dynamite due to the cheesecake covers, but I decided to give one of the John Carter books a shot, this one is Invader of Mars ... I went for it since I'm sorta a Ron Marz fan.
I was pleasantly surprised... the story fit in decently well with the ERB mythos, featuring a n alien race invading, and Carter fighting them off.. the kicker is the aliens have a human warlord too, a Union Cavalry officer with a history with Carter.
The art featured a good helping of Dejah Thoris nearly naked, but, in fairness, the men didn't wear much either.. it was only mildly distracting.

I don't mind the idea of nudity or near nudity in the Barsoom comics - it's part of the original ERB books, after all. It's true that when depicted on the comic book page, as opposed to simply stated in a prose story, it's easy for it to slide into sleaze territory, but I think that can be avoided with the right artist. Corben managed to do it in Den, IMO, for example.
Looking at online images of Invaders of Mars, it doesn't look sleazy to me, but the style just isn't one that I like. So far nothing I've seen from the Dynamite ERB comics has caught my eye in a positive way, unfortunately. I know it's asking a lot, but what I wouldn't give for a Barsoom series drawn by Mark Schultz or someone like that - not that there many other artists of that calibre around.

Yeah, having now read it, it's not as bad as the covers suggested, which was good, but yeah, I agree it's not the best style.
