Black Magick #1 was very good. Love seeing the art in the oversized magazine format, but since the rest of the issues are comic sized, I will likely trade wait the rest of the first arc.

Also read through the second Criminal collection-Lawless. Loved it. I had read the first arc before this year (and reread it recently) but in my 5 year hiatus from comics from '07-'12 I missed the rest of Criminal and am now just getting around to it for the first time.
Great, great stuff all around from Bru and Phillips. Vol. 3 is sitting awaiting read too (though I need to track down Vol. 4 at some point).

Mine isn't magazine sized, but man, is that art amazing. The story was pretty pedestrian, but it seems like there's a rich history that, if they don't take to long to get to, should be good. Kinda reminded me of Robinson's Starman in that respect.

Read through some of the trades I recently got.
The Fade Out Vol. 2-still engrossed by this Bru and Phillips piece. Not sure how long it is set to run, but I am in for the duration.
Also read The Sixth Gun Vol. 4, and I am immensely enjoying this series. I really like Cullen Bunn's creator owned stuff (this, Helheim and the Damned are all very good) even though I find his mainstream super-hero stuff hit or miss.
Also checke dout Dan Abnett's Guardians 3000 8 issue run via Marvel Unlimited. The art was ugly but effective in its storytelling, and while I enjoyed the ride through the series, the ending felt a bit hollow as it left it all as st up for the reshuffling of the MU rather than having some kind of ending that allowed the series stand on its own. It was fun to see all versions of the Guardians and the Korvac saga get a nod, but ultimately it's ending made it feel superfluous and unsatisfying.

Kinda reminded me of Robinson's Starman in that respect. A lot of times I find with Rucka that stuff that seems pedestrian in early issues is stuff that turns out to be foundational, gets built on, and has a big payoff further down the line in the story. There's rarely wasted effort in his stuff, so I looked at all the things in that first issue as seeds for the entire run, but I think it will be built slowly and methodically while taking us (the readers along for the ride). I may want to see larger chunks of it a sI read though, thus more likely I will trade wait the rest of the series. -M

Read Walking Dead #148, it took me less than 2 mn to finish it. It wasn't very good...

I reread the Loki: Agent of Asgard series last night, now that it's completed. While I still think Gillen's Journey into Mystery was better, it's a good companion piece to that series. The second trade is the lesser of the three, mostly hampered by the Axis crossover (hey, what a surprise, a company-wide crossover not being good for an individual series), though even there Ewing managed to make it relevant to the overarching plot of the entire series.
Overall I enjoyed the series a lot and hope to see this incarnation of Loki again and more of Verity.

I've been really enjoying the Batman: Arkham Knight weekly. Now that's more like the Batman I used to know.

Read Walking Dead #148, it took me less than 2 mn to finish it. It wasn't very good... Yeah, I originally got into the series by reading the first two compendium books and then collecting the single issues from #99 through the present. Was much more enjoyable reading it in the compendium format. The single issues are short as hell for the most part. Lots of splash pages with little to no text.

I think it might be getting close to 10 years old, but I just finished the BPRD Plague of Frogs Vol. 2 Omnibus. That was a great read. It's one of the best 'superhero' team stories I have read in a while. The pacing was very well done. Guy Davis' artwork and the coloring just fantastic. The first omnibus, I'm a bit hit and miss upon but it really gathered steam in this volume and I look forward to the next volume.

Read the second Elric Volume from Titan books this afternoon-Vol. 2 Stormbringer-an adaptation of the Moorcock novel. Nice intro by Alan Moore for the volume too. Very good adaptation, as both Moorcock and Moore state, this is probably the best and most faithful adaption of Elric into comics, as as MM said, the way I would have done Elric had I thought of it at the time. The art is dark, moody and majestic at the same time, thoroughly capturing the tone and feel of Moorcock's work. It's European in origin, so it doesn't hold back on the elements that often gent sanitized in American comics (of if included are done so over the top as to make them childish/adolescent rather than mature), so that could put some off, but it is faithful to the source material. Arioch is perfectly creepy and disturbing in his innocent facade, and the body language and facial expressions superbly convey the feeling of the characters in the story rather than just being stock poses and expressions typical in monthly grind comics. The pacing for the adaptation was well done, and this (fitting a longer work into a set number of pages in graphic format) is often a falling down point for adaptations of this sort. It works well here.
I liked Vol. 1, the Ruby Throne slightly better, but I thoroughly enjoyed this version of Stormbringer.

Just read Warren Ellis' James Bond 007 #1. It was... sadly pretty bad. I don't think I'll be getting the remaining issues. It was his usual decompressed storytelling, the art was average at best, it took me les stime to read it than a current issue of Walking Dead. Oh, and it was only setting, no plot ideas yet in motion. I hope they'll enjoy my 3.99$, because I will only get the rest second hand if I even do.

I just read newest issue of The Fade Out. Great stuff. I'll be sad to see it go after the next issue, but I'm excited for whatever Brubaker and Phillips do next.
