This book was actually reprinted in 1997. I snagged a copy of that edition for a few bucks on eBay a couple years ago, just a few weeks after learning of it's existence and just a couple searches. Dumb luck I guess, it's not very easy to find. Apparently the book grew out of a screenplay they worked on, as per Stan Lee's intro.
Someone mentioned it seemed like it could have used more pages. There are scans of unpublished pages online, I think from xeroxes of pencils from The Jack Kirby Collector. One had a scene of soldiers taking aim at Silver Surfer that was reworked into a war story.
The story is a bit of a retread of FF 48-50 but it's still pretty solid and has some great work from Kirby and Sinnott. It really does deserve to be reprinted again. Being the only original work from Marvel's Fireside line, not being in Marvel continuity, and not featuring any superheroes are the biggest contributors to the GN falling into obscurity I think.

Welcome to the CCF, ratsalad, and thanks for the info about the unpublished pages! I don't suppose you know what site has those scans?

I bought this book when it originally came out, excited to see Kirby doing Silver Surfer again. I had mixed feelings, missed that the FF were no longer a part of the story, but loved the artwork. I think a lot of the newer fans are unfamiliar with this book.

Back in 1997 as ratsalad pointed out - I was on Vacation and I brought a reprint of that book and left it on the plane coming back home. I was so mad at myself and I hope someday get a copy of this book. I would love to see this book reprinted and being a fan of Kirby's work and all - this is must book to have. I remembered the art of this book was extraordinary and having said that - I was impressed by it.
I'm so happy to find this thread today.

I just missed out on a copy this week on ebay. I saw it appear on the classic Christmas and was surprised I had never heard of it before. Sadly, I missed out. But my hunt will continue.
