The only great film in the Alien franchise is the original. The others have their moments though. I still need to see Kurosawa's Drunken Angel, Yojimbo or Stray Dog. I really enjoyed Seven Samurai and I've seen parts of Red Beard. Anthony Quinn was so young in this film. It's a shame Giulietta Masina isn't recognized more for her range as an actress. Her character in Nights of Cabiria is nearly the opposite of Gelsomina in La Strada. Great performance in both films from her. Can someone list the splatter movies which followed 1963's Blood Feast? It was low budget but the gore surprised the hell out of me...for a 60s movie. All splatter movies or just Herschell Gordon Lewis movies? My favorites from him are Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs! and The Wizard of Gore.

Interesting points shaxper. I'll see what I think when I watch it after I finish Aliens tonight. I'll be curious to know which version of the film you watch. I've never seen Fincher's director's cut, and I wonder if it helps at all.

I'm watching Caddyshack on AMC right now. Never saw it before. (I know! Hard to believe.) I just saw the scene with the doody in the pool. ZOMG! It's hysterical!
I haven't laughed that much at a movie for a while.

Is the 1982 Swamp Thing movie any good?

Prom Night (1980) Far from Jamie Lee Curtis' best horror movie. It's kind of slow in the middle and the reveal of the killer is predictable by today's standards otherwise it's a solid '80s slasher movie. Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II (1987) Definitely an improvement on the original. Adding the supernatural element to this franchise was like a breath of fresh air during a time when slasher movies had become stale and predictable. At first it gives off a low budget Poltergeist vibe but goes on to deliver some very visually striking scenes. The rocking horse's head coming to life in Vicki's room was just awesome. Vicki getting pulled into the chalkboard was also pretty cool. Very satisfying ending.

Is the 1982 Swamp Thing movie any good? I remember when it was on cable in the early 1980s, but I don't remember it very well. I'm not sure I saw the whole thing. I remember it seemed a lot like 1980s monster movies. (And I had never read a Swamp Thing comic in my life at that point.)

Is the 1982 Swamp Thing movie any good? If you like campy fun then yes. Plus Adrienne Barbeau looked amazing.

Prom Night II has interesting effects for the scares, but the plot itself is rather silly. Mary Lou's motivation is all over the place and she wastes more time than she needs to get her revenge.

Sleeping Beauty (1959) Voices of Mary Costa,Eleanor Audley,Verna Felton,Barbara Ludley,Barbara Jo Allen D-Clyde Geronimi
After being snubbed by the royal family, a malevolent fairy places a curse on a princess which only a prince's kiss can break, along with the help of three good fairies.
Is it sacrilegious to say how disappointed I was with this feature?Let me count the ways. This is really a movie about the 3 fairy godmothers.Sleeping Beauty only has 18 lines of dialogue and 18 minutes of screen time. The godmothers are OK but its like watching the animated adventures of The Golden Girls. Then there is the animation itself which has adopted a more modern style.Less lush and more in keeping with the commercial animation of the 50s.Eyvind Earle was put in sole charge for the look of this movie, the first time a Disney animated feature film's style was controlled by one man. There were no cute anamorphic animals as well besides the brief scene with the forest critters when Sleeping Beauty first meets Prince Charming. And to my ears there was no memorable song. The voice actors were competant but nothing stood out
Maleficent made a good villian and her battle with Prince Charming at the end was rousing.I just did not feel it reached the high standards previous Disney films attained.Still,it was the 2nd highest box office success of the year, only beaten by Ben-Hur. 6 of 10 stars

Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982) Sean Penn,Judge Reinhold,Jennifer Jason Leigh,Phoebe Cates,Robert Romanus,Brian Backer,Ray Walton,Scott Thomson,Vincent Schiavelli,Forest Whitaker,Nicholas Cage D-Amy Heckerling
A story of a group of California teenagers who enjoy malls, sex and rock n' roll.
Cameron Crowe's script adapted by Amy Heckerling in her directorial debut. There are funnier high school films (Ferris Bueller), better acted (Breakfast Club),more sentimental (To Sir With Love) but this one's pretty decent across the board. What stands out to me is the realism of the sex scenes-it captures the awkwardness of kids at that age. The soundtrack is close to perfect (Jackson Browne does not fit).Reinhold and Romanus don't look like high school kids.Penn as the stoner surf dude Jeff Spicoli is a classic.Nicholas Cage's movie debut.Walton played a great teacher as Mr.Hand.I forgot about Forest Whitaker being in this movie. Loved the assorted high school girls copying the "Pat Benetar Look" 8 of 10 stars

I'll agree with ASD that Alien is the crowning achievement in all the Alien movies. The first was the best and none came even close to it. I still own all four. As my opinion stands Alien, Alien 3, Aliens, Ressurection.
Shaxper ... I haven't watched Alien 3 theatrical since the theater, but I really enjoy the director's cut. Though as said since it's been so long from seeing the original, I can't tell you the difference in the two. I agree with you on some points; Ripley & the doc, her death scene; however Newt and Hicks death didn't bother me. Even if it had been in the movie itself I would still maintain my difference. I think that's because a good Alien movie makes the xenomorphs the stars not the people. That's one of the reasons Aliens would be at the bottom of my list if Ressurection weren't so bad. (The newborn did ruin the movie for me). The Aliens are always the stars. HR Gigers creation is an statue come to life in an almost literal sense. An Alien film should be viewed best as realistic as watching a lion hunt an antelope on Nat Geo.
Ressurections plus? Sigourney Weaver never hotter than she was in it.
