I watched Red Dragon (2002) last weekend. I had skipped this before, but I'm enjoying the new Hannibal series so I thought I'd check it out since I had access to SundanceTV that day. It was a serviceable film. Nothing great, but I wouldn't really expect anything great from Brett Rattner anyway.

Please.Let me live in my dream world. No Peter Sellers means no Inspector Clouseau films. They never happened.Bad dream. Therefore I just have 3 more to watch Is this the same Ish who watched dozens of Charlie Chan films just to complete the set? (Although you did bail before the one with Peter Ustinov.)
I am very disappointed.

Brian Cox is decent as the character but lacks the charm and charisma that Anthony Hopkins has. I would say that and Silence of the Lambs are the only really must see films made from Thomas Harris novels. Also NBC's Hannibal is the best horror series on TV. The way that they're able to top their own macabre tableu each week with even more gory and disturbing deaths is pretty incredible and the psychedelic feel to it is just really cool.

I got Going Hollywood (1933) with Marion Davies and Bing Crosby on the DVR right now but I haven't watched it.
I watched the end of White Heat last night. I haven't seen it for a long time. Cagney plays evil so well. He is just so evil in White Heat. He knows he's going to die but he guns down one of the gang members in the back as he's trying to give himself up to the cops. I mean, the dude saw the writing on the wall and knew he was going to burn if he stuck with Cagney to the end. Too late, sucka!

Agreed. Certain characters should die with their creators/

I think I prefer it to the critically acclaimed SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, which is enjoyable but doesn't grapple with the Problem of Evil quite so well.

I like Alan Arkin but if there's no Peter Sellers, there's no Inspector Clouseau I was just mucking around at IMDB, looking to see if there are fun threads about how bad the later Pink Panther films are, and I was surprised to find out that Blake Edwards was still directing them as late as 1993! He directed the one with Ted Wass and the one with Roberto Benigni. Also, it's surprising that Herbert Lom was also involved with both those films.
I'm kind of curious about them now.
And in the Steve Martin Pink Panther films! Kevin Kline is Dreyfus! These two films sound like a disaster. I am NOT curious about them.

The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) Peter Sellers,Herbert Lom, Lesley-Anne Down,Burt Kwouk D-Blake Edwards
It seems with the financial success of 1974's Return of the Pink Panther,MGM had no problem in wanting the property back and Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards, previously going through some lean times, had no problems continuing the series regularly. And this movie as well strikes another home run
Dreyfus(Herbert Lom) escapes from the insane asylum and vows revenge on Inspector Clouseau. He becomes a classic over-the-top manaical evildoer willing to destroy the world if Clouseau is not brought to his castle. So many funny bits. The opening cartoon sequence, the epic battle between Clouseau and Kato,Clouseau's hunchback disguise,Dreyfus' descent into madness,Clouseau trying to cross the castle moat, the 22 assassins trying to kill Clouseau,Clouseau pronouncing the word "room"
There are some moments when the film veers to the brink of overkill. I get the feeling the series has gone as far as it can go and should probably end here.We shall see. 9 of 10 stars
PS-I saw the Steve Martin version and it was terrible.Capitol T terrible

I remember it pretty well even though I haven't seen it in years. When I was in high school and one of my friends would do a Clouseau imitation, it would invariably be something from this movie.
When I was in my teens and I saw the first Pink Panther movie for the first time, I was kind of disappointed because it wasn't anywhere near as funny as this movie. (I've grown to appreciate the first one a lot more over the years ... but The Pink Panther Strikes Back is still the best.)

Tonight Svengoolie is showing the 1953 film It Came from Outer Space. I remember Svengoolie! I saw him a few times in the 1970s (maybe the 1980s?) when I stayed with my mom on the weekends. He's still around? Is it the same guy?

Bishop but he only performed as the character for a few years in the early '70s. The Svengoolie I think most people know is Rich Koz who started as Son of Svengoolie in the 80s and still plays the part today.

You gotta love those local tv horror movie hosts. In the NYC area the earliest and most classic was Zacherly. He had gotten some movie parts, landed a horror movie hosting job in Philly in the late 50s,moved to NYC and became a big star.He even wound up doing FM Progressive Rock DJing. He was featured many times in Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine and I believe he was on a few covers. Here's his website that will tell you more than I ever could linkI do have a Zacherly story. Early 70s my friends and I had a rock band. I had a reel-to-reel tape recorder and would tape our performances of original songs. We would call up a particular late night counter-culture radio talk show telling the host about our latest escapades ( a lot of exaggerations and outright lies). Eventually the host let us play the taped songs over the air. We did it a few times and thought we were making the big time So one night we decided to drive into Manhattan and wait for the late night show host to arrive for his show at the radio station. We actually thought he would allow us to be his guests that evening-totally uninvited. When he arrived and we politely asked,he had a grin on his face and asked us if we were members of the union. "I'm so sorry.boys, you have to be unioin members to be guests.Another time then".We were in a daze as to how he could pass up this great opportunity Then we see Zacherly leaving the building and getting into his car. With nothing else to do we decided to follow him.I have no idea why and what we intended but we were pretty stoned and it sounded like fun. So we hopped into our car and we were off. Onto the FDR driveway, past Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, entering Westchester county north of the city.Exiting on some boulevard and then Zacherly must have noticed he was being followed So Zacherly started to speed up and so did we.He made some sharp turns and so did we.We must have scared the crap out of poor Zach. But then it dawned on us that we were doing this for no reason,Zach might lead us to a police station and we were carrying. So we called it off, found a Jack-in-The-Box and had a bunch of tacos. Thats my Zacherly story
