All the Vacation movies are good. Community is awful.

Really? No love for Spies Like Us? European Vacation? Xmas Vacation? Zoom? Classic SNL? Community? I was referring to Chevy Chase movies. Those 2 Vacation films were fine but Spies Like Us, Three Amigos and so many more were too stupid in my opinion to be funny. God, I can't believe I forgot 3 Amigos...

I quite enjoyed Chevy Chase movies growing up especially Christmas Vacation and Caddyshack. The Fletch movies were pretty good too. Spies Like Us is pretty fun so was ¡Three Amigos!. Funny Farm and Nothing but Trouble weren't too bad and had their moments. Memoirs of an Invisible Man is a decent John Carpenter movie.

You are hereby sentenced to 3 viewings of Under The Rainbow. Guards, take him away!! I don't think I've seen that one. I believe that's the one about the little people who came to Hollywood to play the munchkins in Wizard of Oz in 1939. I can actually see some good material for a movie based on this premise. I've never seen it though, but I do remember it did very badly at the box office. (Which doesn't mean its a bad movie.)

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974)
Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges and George Kennedy star in a breezy and insubstantial road movie / caper film.
I caught this one as part of a package of films airing on public television (along with the aforementioned Bonnie and Clyde, among others). I decided to watch it despite it being a 16:9 pan&scan edit. A recent Blu-Ray 2.35 widescreen edition was limited to 3,000 copies and sells online for $60, as does an older out-of-print DVD. Amazon instant lists an SD version for sale/rent, but it's not clear what the aspect ratio is and comments say the picture quality is bad. Anyway, the majestic Montana scenery was one of the best things in the film, so this new HDTV print is really shortchanging the audience. The film's defenders might say call it "meditative," but I found the plot more like "meandering." Decent performances from Eastwood and Bridges. Bridges was nominated for an Oscar for this one... guess he got bonus points for putting on a dress.... and dying at the end....
VERDICT: Split thumbs.

I part ways with you on Nothing but Trouble: though it at least led to a good episode of How Did This Get Made?...

Also enjoyed the 2 Chevy Chase films: Fletch and Fletch Lives. Using the words enjoyed and Chevy Chase in the same sentence is a rarity Really? No love for Spies Like Us? European Vacation? Xmas Vacation? Zoom? Classic SNL? Community? What about is earlier comedies like Foul Play or Seems Like Old Times?

Foul Play was good, Seems Like Old Times was mediocre and without Rodney Dangerfield,Ted Knight and Bill Murray Caddyshack would suck. Other Chase turkeys include Modern Problems,Deal Of The Century,The Couch Trip,Funny Farm, Memoirs Of An Invisible Man,Cops and Robbersons and Snow Day. A whole days worth of Chevy mugging at the camera

Saw Cops & Roberson in the theater. I won't suggest it's a great film, but it does have suprisingly exquisite sound design.

Some time back, when Netflix first moved online, we spent a fun afternoon with our friends who showed us a couple of movies they had downloaded.
Dean Spanley is a UK/NZ co-production, based on a Lord Dunsany story, and features a luminous performance by Peter O'Toole. It's a whimsical story about family, dogs, reincarnation, Tokay wine, and closure. The pace is slow but every scene contributes to the story. Watch it when you're in a mellow mood.
Trollhunter is a Norwegian "mockumentary" about some film students who discover a government conspiracy to cover up the existence of several types of trolls in the forests and mountains of Norway. The story's a little disjointed but overall the film is a lot of fun.
