I remember Cul de Sac in the daily newspaper. I liked it and was sorry to see it end. One of the better examples of comics exploring the weirdness of seemingly ordinary people.
The win may have been partially motivated by sympathy for Thompson's forced retirement due to Parkinson's disease.
