So perhaps skip-able. What of the current run? Is it worth it? Obviously, it's Astro City so you have to grade it against itself rather than your average contemporary comic. I felt the first year was good with one great story about the Honor Guard's help center, but not quite as great as previous material. The second year, however, may be the best longterm run of issues AC has had since it started. There's a brilliant "Dr Strange's assistant story" followed by a great story about an elderly lady who loves to repair robots followed by the story of a transgendered superhero followed by an amazing four-parter about Quarrel of the Honor Guard that is the best female-centric superhero story that I've read in years followed by a great one-shot in the vein of Flash Gordon with Williamson-homaging art by Jesus Merino followed by the story of a gorilla super soldier who really just wants to play the drums. Everything is gold in the second year of the Vertigo series. And don't forget the brilliant story of Hummingbird's daughter. The title has been going from strength to strength. |

How is the whole Astro City: The Dark Age Saga? I've been binge reading the series as its on sale at comixology but I was reading some synopsis of the Dark Age and it seems a little long to me. It looks like the scope is thrilling, but is it worth it? I lost interest in it while it was coming out. I have all of them except a few issues, I still don't know how it ends. I agree with Icctrombone that it went on too long (there were plenty of long delays between issues) to hold my interest at the time. However, re-reading it all in one go a few years ago, it was a lot better than I remembered it being. The long, drawn out publishing schedule really hurt it from a reader's perspective, I think. But re-reading it again all in one lump, yes, it's well worth your time. Especially so if you already really like Astro City. |

Let me give a fuller answer: I loved Astro city the mini and the first volume, but when it came back in various mini series it was a little hit or miss for me. The Dark Age was 4 separate books with 4 issues each. I first bought it at my LCS and then in back issue form and I ended up buying duplicates because of the weird numbering. 16 issues divided into 4 volumes made it hard to keep track of it, especially with the delays. So now I have 14 of the 16 and I would have to read it to see if it pays off like an earlier poster stated. |

As for the current series, I bought the first 7 or so and found it to be just okay. Maybe the POV mostly being from everyone but the hero wore thin on me. Yeah, it didn't start out that strong.. though the call center story was good. After that, the Winged Victory story is really good, the Quarrel/Cracker Jack story is amazing, and the crazy robot lady is awesome in a retro silver age way. |

With Bill Finger being credited in creating Batman is DC Comics removing Bob Kane entirely and/or put Bill Finger name first and then Bob Kane second - or name him co-creator with Bob Kane?
Is that the case; what about all those Adam West's re-mastered DVD's out there and they needs to include Bill Finger name on them at the end of all 120 shows that ABC produces back in the sixties!

There's no reason for them to remove Bob Kane. I don't think anyone (at least not anyone rational) has ever suggested that Finger created Batman on his own. It's well established that Kane came to Finger with a basic idea and asked for help fleshing it out. As of now this appears to only effect the movies and Gotham. Where it will go, if anywhere, from there is an open question. |

The first year was good, but not great by AC standards. The second year, however, has been nothing but excellent from start to finish. Every story is a winner, and the Quarrel story may be the finest longterm AC story. It's as good as Confession and The Tarnished Angel, in my opinion. It's also the best female-centric superhero story I've read in years, which is significant as the focus on women in comics is such a hot button issue right now. |

The DCU does have the Necronomicon itself (it showed up in Swamp Thing). I can't think of any other specific magic tomes (except things like the Book of Destiny). Anybody know the name of the book that was used in Sandman #1 to summon and imprison Dream?

The one that had Kathrine Kane's name in it? That seemed comparable. |
