Rob, did you find that Superboy in Africa story?
Not from the 60s, but Superboy 172 has a cover story in which Superboy goes to Africa.
Also, and thank Professor Lang for these trips to Africa:
Adventure 196, "Kingorilla."
Adventure 200, "Superboy and the Apes."
Adventure 219, "Gorilla with X-Ray Eyes."
Adventure 312, "lana Lang, Hollywood Star."
Superboy 19 (1952) in "Riddle of the Rarest Animals."
Superboy 22: "Noah's Ark from Space" and "Superboy and the Sleeping Beauty."
Superboy 25, "Cinderella of Smallville."
Superboy 60, "Super Tales of Lana Lang"
Superboy 123 has Superboy in Africa (Egypt) in"The Curse of the Superboy Mummy."
Superboy 127, "The Strange Insect Lives of Lana Lang"

Roy has received information that the story he's looking for is in Superboy #93 from 1961.

The latest request from Roy:
Hi Folks--
Could use hi-res scans of the splash pages of two stories from the 1950s PHANTOM STRANGER #6: for "Doorway in the Sky" and "Ghosts in the Locked Room." Naturally, will send a copy of the pertinent issue of ALTER EGO to the first person who sends me the scan I can use... one or the other or both.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

As of this morning, Roy had not received either of the scans from Phantom Stranger #6. Does anyone have a copy?

As of this morning, Roy had not received either of the scans from Phantom Stranger #6. Does anyone have a copy? I've been looking for affordable copies of the 1950s Phantom Stranger series for over 20 years now and I've still never seen one in the wild, let alone an affordable one. I've seen a few online (never affordable), but never in person. -M

This isn't for Alter Ego, but someone here might have this:
Abrams Books, which is just coming out with the first portfolio collecting 12 of the Marvel-related black light posters from Third Eye in the late 1960s, is hoping to do a second volume... and IF they can get permission to print the Conan one (from the splash page in CONAN THE BARBARIAN #8, if I recall a-right), they actually need a copy of it to print from. If anyone has it, please contact me and I'm sure I can arrange with Abrams for you to receive a copy of the whole portfolio, maybe a little extra, to lend them that poster.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

Here's a new one:
Have an unusual request, only partly related to myself. A publisher I'm working with hopes to do a facsimile copy of every page of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #83, all 36 pages counting covers... and needs access to a copy of the original comic in order to do so. There are two possibilities--either the brief loan of the comic to the publisher (who is in the UK), insured, etc.--or good 300 dpi scans of every page, including ads. Probably the latter will make more sense for someone who is willing to thus handle his/her copy of the first issue with Thor. In addition to a copy of the finished book (of which the facsimile is only a small part, and it ain't cheap), a reasonable amount of money (in three figures) can change hands. Please contact me first, and I'll get back to you. This is a worthwhile project that I think the owner will be happy to be associated with. I'll be away over the weekend at Torpedo Comics in Las Vegas, but will be back to check e-mail on Sunday. I don't like to do such things while I'm traveling.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

The latest:
Afraid I have a rather more detailed request to make today than usual. ALTER EGO #176 will present articles by Mark Carlson-Ghost, Anthony Tollin, and Will Murray on the Street & Smith Comics of the 1940s, including but not limited to SHADOW COMICS, DOC SAVAGE, SUPERSNIPE, RED DRAGON, ARMY AND NAVY, SPORTS COMICS, TRAIL BLAZERS, PIONEER PICTURE STORIES, and SUPER MAGICIAN. Because Conde Nast and later owners have kept up S&S's copyrights, there are no public-domain sites to which one can go for art that would accompany these pieces, although the authors will be providing a number of art scans and photos themselves. But I need rather more than they're likely to provide, and I'll be happy to give a copy of AE #176 to each and every person who is the first one to send a photo or piece of art that is used in the issue... while extra art scans will be saved for later, and will earn the provider a free copy at that time.
I can use pages (mostly not covers, which ARE available, through the GCD itself, bless it) of the various series in the S&S comics, both the main ones and the minor ones. Besides general pages that might be interesting or show off a new or major artist on a strip, I could very definitely use things like (but not limited to) the following:
Photos of major people associate with Street & Smith, such as the original owners, Francis Smith and Ormand Smith and Francis Street... company-runner Allen Grammer... editor William de Grouchy... various artists and writers who worked for the company (though we should be okay on Walter Gibson)...
Good splash or just action pages from various Shadow and Doc Savage stories, including key ones... like when Bob Powell became the Shadow's artist... or Doc Savage both before and after his makeover into a super-hero with magic ruby...virtually any series from SHADOW COMICS or the other titles, really, including BILL BARNES, AMERICA'S AIR ACE and Blackstone in SUPER MAGICIAN and SUPERSNIPE and RED DRAGON, who also had their own comics for a while.
But there are lots of minor characters... S&S's Mad Hatter (or his earlier life as Steel Claw in SHADOW COMICS V2#12)...the Legless Ace in PIONEER... the Skull as Nazi enemy of Doc Savage...Hooded Wasp and his young sidekick... Ajax the Sun Man... Astron, Crococile Queen... Rex King, aka Black Fury... Tigerman... Monstradamus, villain over an 8-part SHADOW COMICS serial with the Shadow himself, in Vol. 2 & 3... the Hag and the Talon (also villains)... Sinistari and the Elders of Evil (ditto)... Bill Neff, the Blackstone replacement Gibson came up with...
...and some MINOR minor heroes such as Biff Morgan (a Flash copy), the Black Crusader, Capt. Jack Commando, Chuck Magnon - Immortal Man, the Iron Ghost, Kon Fu, the Minute Man (yes, S&S had its own!), Mr. 13, Mr. Twilight, the Phantom Flyer, Red Rover, the Thunderbolt, and Transo... and whatever else you may run across.
Thanks for listening! We're all in this comics-history thing together!
Roy
