I love that she's so clueless that she not only apparently left the door to her spaceship open, but doesn't notice the alien two feet behind her. Oh well, at least she wore her see-thru spacesuit so she looks good for her surprise visitor.

Great choice I very nearly posted that one myself.

Great choice I very nearly posted that one myself. Thanks! Strange that old Speed Carter never benefited from the rising tide that swept so many Atlas characters into the Silver Age (Yellow Claw, Black Knight, etc.). He remains a fixture of the 1950s.

Self-swipe by Frank R Paul Oh, I see it now. It's a moth! Sweet! Paul is the cover artist for Marvel Comics #1, but I'm not familiar with any of his other work. What a talent!

In addition 54 to his Martians shown above, Frank Paul imagined/depicted other planets' denizens too. ubersuper.com/retro-futurism/ Here's a link to some of his work:

I encountered Paul's work as an illustrator for the sf mags first, and was surprised when I first saw that Superworld cover and realized he'd used his previous design. In fact, I hesitated to use this cover, since the alien isn't original to comics. But a) that's not in the rules anywhere, and b) the dude still looks cool.

I encountered Paul's work as an illustrator for the sf mags first,... I only discovered a couple years ago that Paul worked in comics, and was very surprised that he did Marvel #1.

No problem with re-using it, IMO--Paul was just being consistent in his vision of Martians, on the 1939 Man From Mars pic and then on the cover of Superworld Comics #1 when he depicted Martians visiting the moon (apparently we earthlings aren't the only ones interested in space travel ). And it is a very cool cover!

Hey, not there is anything wrong with it, but does anyone here realize we already did this theme? Here is the link... classiccomics.boards.net/thread/258/classic-cover-contest-hall-fame?page=2 It was previously titled Weird Creatures rather than Bizarre Aliens. It was won by mrp back in April. I was going to pick that Superworld #1, which I used in the previous contest of this theme, which is why I recalled the repeat Hmm... I will think of another cover.

I remembered, but took this week's theme to be specifically about extraterrestrials, whereas the previous one could be any kind of weird creature.

Of course all those crazy Wolverton creatures you have to hope are extraterrestrial or we on earth are in some sort of trouble.

My first thought was to look for a Wolverton Spacehawk cover for this week before going the route I did. -M

Before his classic EC period Wally Wood was perfecting his skill at drawing lascivious bug eyed monsters for Avon.
