My name is Chad. I never posted on the previous board, but I was an avid reader of the old forum and its discussions about comics. The demise of the old board shocked me enough to realize that it had become a beacon of light for me within the vast wasteland of today's online comic book culture. I decided to introduce myself as a show of support to the efforts being made to establish this new board and take my first step in becoming a member of its community.
I learned to read enjoying comic books of the Bronze Age, but did not collect them as a child. While I continued to read comics on a casual basis during my early adulthood, mostly through daily strips, I only rediscovered them about six years ago. I do have a small pull list and purchase collected editions of a handful of current series, but my real passion for comics lies in the classics. My favorite being Hal Foster's Prince Valiant.
I consider myself a reader. My personal library of comics consists of collected editions of my favorite writer, series I enjoy enough to read more than once and reprints I would happily loan to family and friends. While I certainly appreciate a mint copy of a rare issue, the need to amass boxes of bagged and boarded comic books is not in me. My reserve list at my local library is probably lengthier than my purchase history at my local comic shop.
I look forward to discussing classic comics with everyone.

I wonder if Jezebel has joined ? I always enjoyed her posts and pictures of the variants and comics she'd get. Of course I'd be envious too. lol

I, MWGallaher, started participating on the CBR forums back when it was home to Scott Shaw!'s Oddball Comics feature and forum. I was a regular on the Oddball Forum under the monicker "The Professor" (named after my favorite Gilligan's Island character; I'm not a professor in real life). At some point I started joining in on the Classics Forum, and continued there after Scott moved away from CBR. After the first great CBR Forum meltdown (with its wipeout of threads and memberships), I re-registered using my real name (M is for Michael, W is for William). I suppose I was best known as the #1 Jim Aparo fan of the gang (I ran an Aparo fan club and newsletter with Chris Khalaf, a name you might remember from lettercols of the 70's and 80's), but my range of comics interests is a lot broader than just that, as I hope I've demonstrated. In real life, I'm an engineer for NASA in Huntsville Alabama, USA. So glad you made it over MWG. It wouldn't be the same without your courteous edification to brighten the discussion. And I see the wonderful Prince Hal made it here as well. This place is growing richer.

Is your Jeopardy appearance available on youtube? It's one of my wife and I favorite show. Only thing we miss since we cut cable a couple years ago (and Soccer, but that's mostly(just) me...) I have no idea, but that was a brilliant thought! It was broadcast in October 1994, on a Friday. If anyone finds it, please let me know!

I'm Jim, aka Destro. I don't tend to post a lot, but I have followed the CBR classic comics board for years now. By day I am a daring Construction worker. By night I am a punk and electronic music musician. I'm a big 60s and 80s comics fan.

- I was on Jeopardy! in 1994 (didn't win). That is almost spooky - I was on (German) Jeopardy! in 1994, too! I won once, a smallish a amount of roughly 2000 $US at the time (4000 Deutschmarks) which was a nice sum for a student, and my parting gift the second show was a video camera. It's not on youtube. A few years later I was on German Weakest Link and won almost the exact sum I needed to pay back my student loans, which was a life changer.

Ok Coke, I'll try to post more... But you are right, Most of the books don'T make there way to english. Or at least they are not easily available. Of the top of my head, I'm thinking about Lincoln, Candélabre, Théodore Poussin that are all GREAT series that I've never seen in english. On the funnier side, Pauvre Lampil and Le Gang Mazda are some of my favorite "Sitcom" not available in english neither. The really popular series are probably available though.... Largo Winch (ok), Thorgal (good for the most), XIII (Excellent until they restarted it), etc.. Side note - Thorgal's artist was in Quebec City a couple weeks ago, Grzegorz Rosinski (I think he also drew a few captain america comics) and my brother when to get sketches in comics. It was free, as it ALWAYS is with Franco-Belge artist. That was a big shock when I went to my first comic-con, waited in line for 1h30 and then I saw it was something around 20$ to get an autograph (not even a drawing; if I remember correctly it was Chris Claremont). I of course didn't get it! I posted in a thread about european comics, back at CBR. But I don't remember where it was. That would be a start.

I got Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits and Doors 13 about the same time in 1980 or 1981, and I used to listened to them all the time. I have Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits on vinyl. It's in great shape too still has the plastic wrap. Neither of my vinyls players work at the moment though. You can get turntables with MP3 connection for something like 70 bucks. They will hookup both to your stereo and your computer, and you can easily digitize your vinyl records to MP3s with them.

Hi, everyone. I made it here. Thanks for letting me know this place is here. I've missed you guys. <3 Welcome to the new clubhouse! Thanks! I am going to read the Astro City soon that you sent me. We've been rearranging our office, and my long boxes are out in an inconvenient place for now, so I've been mostly reading trades. All the things I love are no longer right next to me where I sit, and it's driving me batty.
