All righty, then, let's do this. I joined CBR as impulseucf in 2007 I think after migrating over from the old ComixFan/Xfan boards. I started off in the X-books threads primarily, but the state of the X-line rapidly deteriorated shortly thereafter, and I found myself spending most of my time in the Music and TV/Film subforums. I meandered into other areas if I saw an interesting topic in the new posts page. I never really spent any time in the old Classics forum, but after the CBR Reboot a few days ago, I heard so many great things about it that it seemed a tragedy it was gone even though I never went there! Shax posted some invites to come on over here, and I was more than happy to oblige. I'm trying to get the lay of the land before I really post much because I don't want to be the guy that comes into someone else's place and ruins everyone's good time. I get this isn't the new CBR and I do not intend to treat it as such. I already own some classic comics and appreciate vintage art and music, expanding my appreciation of and exposure to classic comics is definitely appealing! I started reading comics when I was about 9 years old. A friend and his mom were collectors, and I was brought to the stores with them several times. I don't know when I started myself as it's all kind of a blur, but I started reading X-Men books back when there were...what, two of them, LOL? Anyway, I stayed mostly in the X sandbox , but I eventually dappled into Image (it was the 90s, give me a break) and then stopped when I was around 13-14 to spend more time listening to music and being too shy to hit on girls. I had a bit of a rebirth around 18-19 and started collecting again in earnest in college. I mostly now read independent/Image stuff, specifically Invincible and The Walking Dead, but I have a healthy TPB collection and various long and short boxes. I have a nice, if small, collection of framed classic comics in our vintage/guest room. My personal favorites are my Lois Lane # 3 Giant Size 80 Pages (1964) and my Uncanny X-MEN # 141-142 signed by Chris Claremont (with cert. of authenticity) My lovely wife got that started for me, but that's a conversation for another post. And this is now entirely too long, and I apologize. I also have a healthy collection of LPs, but neither The Eagles nor Fleetwood Mac are counted among them.

My current interests are almost evenly split between new and old books. I don't dismiss the new material, it's not all that bad. I don't dismiss new comics out of hand, I dismiss the price tag. I know the feeling...I waited till my Wolvie books were half-cover. Incidently, although the new Amazing Spidey #1 has a cover that's almost $6...dealers got it from Diamond for less than half of that, which is why we're seeing sets of 10,25, 50 books etc being offered for $3 each on Ebay without the variant thrown in. Better dealers pass on discounts to customers. There's no way I'd spend 6 smacks on that cross-eyed Peter Parker cover...I'd accept that look if he was in bed with MJ in some kind or orgasmic bliss...but not swinging around in midair. (I got one for free anyway when I got my 3rd Ross cover and will be giving it to a little girl who's never seen a comic book before)...

As in with classic comics collectors, in general. MY LCS owner regularly comments that the majority of new readers are female, and yet the classic comics generally still attract older men. I'd love to see more diversity here, myself. When I was comics shopping yesterday (at sales in observance of FCBD), I was rather astonished at the number of young females, not only buying comics on sale, but spending a good long time digging through the bins. It was nice to see.

Seems like I'm number #100 Thanks for the invites and to those who wondered where I was. I had once concern that I seem to have resolved using a certain feature in Profile. Well, about me. My real name is Kayla, or Kay for short, I'm a Brit who currently resides in the sunny southern caribbean with her boy-toy husband and I have a condition that I never seemed to outgrow - I read and collect comics. Anything else, feel free to ask. Glad to have you aboard, Jez. Welcome of the House of Fun!

My name is Tom McKenna. I'm a 46 year old teacher in Central Florida. I love reading comics -- both new and old. I am a Marvel zombie who collects Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil, Deadpool an Moon Knight comics. And I admit to liking Marvel's Sentry, but don't hold that against me. Currently, I am trying to finish off my Amazing Spider-Man run -- I need just six more issues, plus two annuals. I also really like DC's Justice Society. It probably has to do with all that history. Plus they are pretty awesome characters. Although I never mentioned it at CBR, I'm also a big music geek too. I listen to a little bit of everything -- from Classic Rock, to Punk, Singer-Songwriter, Alt-Country to Power Pop. I often joke that next to my Joni Mitchell CDs are my Metallica CDs. As far as music goes, I've been trying to bet more into Power Pop lately. I always listened to The Beatles, Badfinger, Teenage Fanclub, XTC and early Elvis Costello. Lately I've expanded and added Jellyfish and Fountains of Wayne to my most loved groups. If you're really a glutton for punishment, you can see most of what I have listened to for the last 9 years at: www.last.fm/user/killerbassAnyway, it's good to be back amongst you guys! --Tom

Is that still in use? I used to hear it in the 80's, but thought it was passé. Well, I'm a Marvel zombie too.

I was MadDog1981 on the old boards. Birth name is Brad.
I started on CBR I think in 2011. I was a Newsarama poster since like 2004 and when that finally died for good I moved to CBR.
I'm 33 years old and I work in the insurance industry. I'm married with no kids. I live in Columbus, OH. If anyone is a local to there. I was a regular at the Westerville Comic Town shop until it finally closed it's doors.
I started a little late with comics. I was 11 when I started to read the various Spider-Man and X-Men titles. My reading ebbs and flows depending on my life but at worst I try to read an issue or two a week. I'll read any companies stuff but I consider the Marvel Universe to be my home when it comes to comics.

We're a little off-topic with so many comments about artists and their various strengths and weaknesses. (And I admit, I'm guilty too.) It has been interesting, for sure. But this is the thread for introducing (or reintroducing) yourself to the community, so let's try and be a little more focused.
We can move the artist comments to Meanwhile ... or to the artists thread. (I know it's a thread for "favorite" artists but I'd rather not have a thread called "Least Favorite Artists" (too negative), but maybe we could have one called "Artist Discussion.")

I haven't been to a lot of comic shops out Columbus way but have checked a few. The one I go to most often is the one in the food court of the convention center, but haven't been there since Origins last year. I do like World's Greatest Comics though, great selection of older books there, and the owner is a friend of one of the founders of Twilight Star Studios. Hoping to check it out again in a few weeks when my wife and I go to Origins again. I do however, hit the Half Price Books in Columbus fairly regularly, especially the one on Lane Ave and the one in Carriage Place. -M

I actually just discovered the Convention Center shop. I'm a regular at the Half Price books around the city. Always looking for some cheap books.
