D.C. Fontana contributed so much to the original series. Rest in peace.

RIP to Greedy Smith; vocalist, keyboardist, harmonicist and songwriter with Australian pop/new wave band Mental As Anything. Greedy wrote many of their hits, including what was possibly their greatest hit "Live It Up". Earlier this year, Greedy and his band mate Martin Plaza were announced as the 2019 Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame Inductees. Greedy died of a heart attack on on Dec. 2 2019. Those two Mental as Anything albums released by A&M in '82 and '83 have been staples on my turntable for decades. RIP

I seem to most remember a song Too Many Times by Mental As Anything... I'm sure it got a lot radio play here for what that's worth. Nice how there was that extra songwriting recognition for them recently!

Nice how there was that extra songwriting recognition for them recently! "Too Many Times" was another one of Mental as Anything hits. Being Australian, their music was part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. It is good to know Mental got airplay overseas. There have been a lot of bands that are big in Oz but never make it overseas.
The induction for Greedy and Martin is long overdue, but it was nice that it happened while Greedy was still with us.

Yeah, sad news about Dorothy Fontana; I really recommend a column posted by Greg Hatcher almost exactly a year ago at the Atomic Junk Shop about Fontana and just how much she contributed to the Star Trek mythos, esp. Spock. It's also a good general tribute to her work.

Aw, sad to hear about Fontana. She wrote some of the best Trek and most of the Vulcan lore. You can also see her fingerprints on the short-lived Logan's Run tv series, where she was script editor.

She did Logan's Run too ... interesting. Yep, Fantastic Journey, too. She also wrote episodes for: The Wild Wild West Bonanza The Big Valley High Chaparral Streets of San Francisco The Six Million Dollar Man He-Man Land of the Lost Kung Fu The Waltons Dallas Buck Rogers War of the Worlds Babylon 5 Earth Final Conflict Silver Surfer and even an ABC Afterschool Playbreak. Then, there were her novels, including some Trek and the novelization of Rodenberry's The Questor Tapes. Hell of a writer!

I remember hearing about it when Mr. Spinney retired and someone else started being Big Bird not so long ago.
