They don't even show a clip of Tim Conway's Nazi interrogator destroying him? Omission rectified.

Children's author and illustrator Tomie dePaola has passed away, at 85. dePaola is best known for his Caldecott Medal-winning book Strega Nona, a folk tale-inspired story of a crafty grandmother; and, for the Newbery Honor-winning 26 Fairmount Avenue. His first work was published in 1965 and his most recent in the past year, making the total he had written or illustrated some 270. Strega Nona tells the story of an old woman, in Calabria, in Southern Italy. She is a sort of wise woman in the village, creating remedies for illness, playing matchmaker to single women and helping villagers with her troubles. She has a helper named Big Anthony who does chores for her. Strega Nona makes a big pot of pasta every night, with her magic pot. Bg Anthony watches her but misses the fact that she blows three kisses to make it stop cooking. Big Anthony tries to bring the secret to the villagers and is laughed at, so he tries it himself. However, he can't stop the pot and floods the village with past, until Strega Nona returns and stops it.

Sometimes Robert E. Howard artist Thomas Gianni as just passed away. He had done great book covers, including some featuring Steve Costigan. It's a great loss, especially considering that he was still fairly young. He will be missed. *Edit* I initially conflated Thomas and Gary Gianni, but the two gentlemen are not the same. Although it does not diminish Thomas's loss, the latter is still thankfully among us.

R. I. P. Bill Withers. Withers was a great songwriter and a fine vocal stylist best known for his hits in the early 70s including "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" and "Lean on Me." Ain't no sunshine today.

I love Bill Withers' music...such a shame to hear that he's passed away. As Slam's already said, he was a great singer and an even better songwriter. He penned some absolute classics of his era, like "Ain't No Sunshine", "Lovely Day", "Grandma's Hands", "Use Me", "Just The Two Of Us", and "Lean On Me", many of which are standards today. One of my favourites of his was "Harlem"...
