R.I.P. Frank Bonner. Probably best known as Herb Tarlek the loud-mouthed and loud-suited advertising agent on WKRP in Cincinnati. Bonner was all over the TV in the 70s and 80s. Oh no, not Herb! Sad to hear this, the talent and chemistry of that entire cast was amazing. Bonner had so many classic lines I could quote, I don't even know where to begin. He's up there with the "big guy" now (by which I mean Mr. Carlson of course). RIP

Bonner also directed quite a bit of television, including 6 episodes of WKRP and 7 of the revived show. Bonner doesn't get enough credit for how good he really was, since Herb was a buffoon. However, WKRP always had sharp writing and herb was humanized, over time and was given some nice moments, like when he has to tll his daughter that he accidentally killed her pet frog...... One thing is for sure, ugly plaid sports coats will be at half mast all over the country!

Frank Bonner also starred in Jack Harris' and Dennis Muren's seminal sci-fi horror film, "Equinox"--A somewhat influential cult classic. Muren cut his teeth on this one as a special effects artist... and later went on to do a few more "lesser known" films... such as Star Wars, E.T. and Jurassic Park.

Joann Linville has passed away at the age of 93.She appeared in a ton of shows in the 1950s through 1980s, but is probably best known as the Romulan Commander in Star Trek: TOS's 3rd season episode, "The Enterprise Incident": R.I.P.

I think the only other thing I can recall seeing her in is an episode of Columbo, as the wife of murderer Jackie Cooper, a politician who murders his campaign manager. Of course, he has a girl on the side (which leads to the campaign manager to pressure him to drop her, before it is exposed, leading to his murder). She was a fine actress and I loved her character on Star Trek. Both a commanding presence and a very sensual woman. Definitely one f the more complex female characters presented there.

Former Heavyweight contender Brian London has passed at age 87. London twice fought for the Heavyweight boxing championship. He lost to Floyd Patterson in an 11th round KO. He fought for the title again in 1966, when he was well past his prime, against Muhammed Ali, losing in a 3rd round KO. London was one of the better fighters in the U.K in his time.

Interesting to read about London. He was a little before my time as a boxing fan and I've nver read much about him, so I only really knew him as a name that would come up here and there when I reading about the more famous fighters of his era.

Like a lot of boxers he fought way past his prime. His early record was pretty respectable. His late record pretty bad. But you have to be good to get two title shots. And he fight four boxers who were world champs at one point; Ali, Patterson, Johansen and Willie Pastrano (light heavyweight champ). He was well before my time as well.

Yeah, and looking at his record he fought a lot of other big talents who weren't world champs, like Jerry Quarry, Zora Folley.
Of course back then there wasn't as much artificial building up and then protection of fighters' perfect records, and also way fewer self-appointed sanctioning bodies and weight divisions, so if you were a good fighter, chances were you'd have to fight a lot of the other good fighters, if not all of them!

Great image of her, she looked fantastic as the Romulan commander. I always think the Romulans' potential as part of the Star Trek Universe was never quite realised as it could have been - though I'm told they make a good showing in Deep Space Nine?

DS9 turned the Ferengi, Cardassian's and Jem'Hadar and others into the same kind of interesting formats.

There's a very few episodes of DS9 where they are featured a bit more prominently, but I think the various Romulan-centered episodes in the later seasons of TNG do a better job in that regard. The thing is, as I understand it, the Bajorans were initially supposed to be subjugated by the Romulan Empire, but then for whatever reason the switch was made to the Cardassians. It would have been so cool if that original Romulan idea had been retained. That would have meant a deep dive into Romulan politics and culture on DS9 (which would have made that show so much better).

R.I.P. René Robert, who was one of my sports heroes with the Buffalo Sabres in the '70s, as a member of the French Connection trio. Robert is the reason I always tried to wear number 14 whatever sport I played. Man, how frustrated I was when the Sabres made it to the Stanley cup finals but were defeated by the Flyers! There are more people living today than ever before, but the older I get the more I feel like there are fewer of us... "us" being old farts, probably!!!

I was a die-hard Canadiens fan but Gilbert Perreault was possibly my favourite player and I loved the French Connection - I wished they played for the Canadiens, like they probably would have in the old days! Rene Robert was the grit and toughness on the line, combined with Perreault's puck-handling and passng skills and Martin's deadly shot, they were an unbeatable combination.

Just saw the news that director/producer Richard Donner has passed away at the age of 91. He had a long and storied career, but is perhaps best known to many of us as the director of Superman the Movie and The Omen, as well as the Goonies and Lethal Weapon.
