R.I.P. to R. Walter Cunningham, the last surviving crew member from Apollo 7, the first crewed Apollo mission, who has died at the age of 90 from complications following a fall. At least he lived long enough to see the start of the Artemis project.

R.I.P. to R. Walter Cunningham, the last surviving crew member from Apollo 7, the first crewed Apollo mission, who has died at the age of 90 from complications following a fall. At least he lived long enough to see the start of the Artemis project. Sadly, Wally Schirra's contentious relationship with Mission Control ended up sabotaging Cunningham's career, by association. Schirra had announced his retirement, before the flight; and, if Tom Wolfe is accurate, already had a cranky relationship with Mission Control, going back to Mercury. He did give two (*STATIC*) about their side programs. I have also read that Schirra's wife also greatly enjoyed the fact that he was the senior ranking astronaut of the bunch, as that translated to her position, among the wives. Lot of politics to get to the moon, even outside of Washington. Cunningham went on to head the Skylab program; but, when he was passed over for the first mission commander, for Pete Conrad, after being promised the mission, he resigned from NASA.

RIP to author Fay Weldon. Probably best known for The Life and Loves of a She-Devil, which was made into a 1986 BBC series and the 1989 movie, with Roseanne Barr and Meryl Streep (heavily modified, though). Weldon also wrote The Cloning of Joanna May, which was adapted into a telefilm, by ITV, in 1992.
Weldon published 30+ novels, numerous short stories, articles, plays and film and television scripts. She wrote the first episode of the seminal original Upstairs, Downstairs, which won her a Writer's Guild Award. She also wrote Life for Christine, based on an actual 15 year-old girl sentenced to life imprisonment and the 1980 BBC mini-series adaptation of Pride & Prejudice.

Definitely watch the miniseries rather than the movie.

Bummed about Earl Boen. Like Stuart Margolin, he seemed to be all over the place and was always a welcome presence.
Another sad one for watchers of '70s TV: Former child star Adam Rich has passed away from undisclosed causes at 54.

Another sad one for watchers of '70s TV: Former child star Adam Rich has passed away from undisclosed causes at 54. Saw that. Never realized he was two years younger than me. Seemed much younger, in the show. Sounds like he battled mental illness and substance issues for a long, long time.
