I had no idea Bacharach was still alive. And now he isn't. Cei-U! I summon the mental update! A few years back, I was under the impression he had died and was surprised to see him listed as still living. I could swear I heard it announced on a reputable news broadcast. Looking at dates, it might have been around the time of Hal David's death and maybe I misheard Burt being mention, as his collaborator.

Legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach has died at age 94. Along with collaborator Hal David Bacharach wrote...just all the songs. Particularly well known for his long-time collaboration with singer Dionne Warwick.
Well, Damn.
Bacharach was a consummate tunesmith for sure.
In tribute, I'm posting my Top 5 all-time favorite Bacharach tunes (with various lyricists). Also, the versions I'm posting are my Top 5 renditions (in order from 1 to 5), not necessarily the original artists, but the ones that have stuck with me over the years.

I had forgotten about Bacharach's cameo appearances in the Austin Powers movies. So here we go.

When talking about Bacharach's work, we shouldn't forget the catchiest, if least terrifying, horror movie theme ever.

Also passing away was psychologist and therapist Charles Silverstein, who in 1973, gave a presentation, challenging the American Psychological Associations inclusion of homosexuality in the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders, classifying it as a mental illness. He was a key figure in its removal and the change of focus in treating homosexual clients to be able to live without shame for who they were. He was also a key challenger of Conversion Therapy. Silverstein was a gay man and had been involved in the anti-war movement and then the Gay Activists Alliance. He wrote a satire of various "disorders that had previously (and wrongly) included in past versions of the DSM, including "syphilophobia," defined as a fear of syphilis, which would be a rational fear. he finished by saying those were mistakes made in the past that were corrected and that the same mistake had been made with homosexuality. 10 months later, it was delisted from the DSM.
He wrote guides to helps parents of LGBTQ children and clinical guides for therapists treating gay clients, as well as The Joy of Gay Sex, which proved somewhat controversial , due to graphic images and frank language.
It took great courage, in 1973, to be openly gay and challenge the entire profession's outlook on homosexuality and help usher in positive change. A lot of people have lived happier lives because he was willing to be a voice in the wilderness.

RIP to legendary and iconic actress Raquel Welch, who passes today at age 82.
I'm not sure how many tomes I watched 100,000 BC as a kid, but every time it was on I was watching it.

I'm not sure how many tomes I watched 100,000 BC as a kid, but every time it was on I was watching it. -M I definitely watched her most often in the Lester Musketeer movies. And then probably in 100 Rifles with Jim Brown. A beautiful lady. R.I.P.

Heck, I first watched Fantastic Voyage because I knew she was in it. Sleep well, Raquel.

I was about to mention these (and the Lester Musketeer films are a given)> For someone who was sold on the physical, she had some acting chops and could surprise you, especially in a comedy. Welch is also the inspiration behind the Salkind Clause in movie contracts. The Salkind's produced the Lester Musketter films, but the project was originated as one big road Show movie. Everyone was paid accordingly. then, they decided to split it into two films, to better sell it and stiff everyone on the second part. Welch grabbed her attorney and sued the Salkinds into oblivion, with the rest of the cast following. Frank Finlay praised her for being smart enough and tough enough to go after them for their shenanigans. They were a pair of weasels, as Richard Donner would have attested. She was a tough lady and didn't take crap from Hollywood execs, including suing MGM, when they fired her and claimed breach of contract, on Cannery Row and she proved that they were using her as a scapegoat for budget over-runs.

Likewise. Never was a big wrestling fan, but roller derby was my guilty pleasure; especially women's roller derby. Those ladies could flat mix it up at times, and sometimes the staged conflict got real. It used to come on about 3pm on Saturday in my neck of the woods. If at all possible, I wouldn't miss it.
