R.I.P. Charles Dierkop. The name probably doesn't mean much. But he was one of those faces you always remembered in movies and on TV. Oh yeah...that guy. I definitely remember him best as Floyd in The Sting.

Yeah, I think he played bad guys. He was also one of Angie Dickinson's sidekicks on the old Police Woman series.
Cei-U! I summon the teenage crush (Angie, not Dierkop)!

Watched that regularly. For one thing, I'd rather look at Angie Dickinson than Paul Newman or Robert Redford. I did see him in both films, though. He was a Marine, stationed in Korea (post-Korean War) and used the GI Bill to attend the American Foundation of Dramatic Arts, in Philadelphia and was a member of the Actor's Studio (as was Newman)

Yeah just saw that. Always liked his work and his acting, in Anything But Love and as Prince John, in Robin Hood, Men in Tights. Funny comedian. I didn't know it until I read NPR's obituary for him; in Billy Joel's "My Life," the lyric...... Got a call from an old friend, we used to be real close
Said he couldn't go on the American way
Closed the shop, sold the house, bought a ticket to the West Coast
Now he gives them a stand-up routine in LA...was about Lewis

Brian Mulroney, former Prime Minister of Canada, just passed away in his early '80s. He was the only conservative PM I ever voted for (although I would have voted for Kim Campbell). His work to help end apartheid in South Africa didn't make him popular among certain allies, but it was a worthy fight. It's really unfortunate that his Meech Lake accord was derailed after coming this close from being accepted by all the provinces; that setback may yet cause the end of the country down the line.
Mulroney was a quiet but genial fellow who made a great elder statesman. Canada has no one of that stature at the moment, at least not among those who want to get the top spot.
May he rest in peace.

R. I. P. W.C. Clark. The name probably doesn't mean a lot to people who aren't music geeks...particularly blues geeks. But Clark truly was the Godfather of Austin Blues. He was a huge influence on Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan. His bands toured with and opened for the likes of B.B. King, James Brown, Albert King, Freddie King, Bobby Blue Bland...the list goes on and on. But it was as a mentor to a generation of Austin blues musicians that his influence has been truly felt.

You may not know his name, but you've probably heard his voice. Mark Dodson, who voiced Jabba the Hutt's sidekick Salacious Crumb in Return of the Jedi, gremlins in Gremlins, zombies in Day of the Dead, and other things, has died at 64.

Wow, double-whammy of sad news this morning; first up, it's been reported that acclaimed manga artist Akira Toriyama has died at what I think is the much-too-young age of 68... He is by far best known for creating the manga series Dragon Ball, which spawned an entire media franchise (i.e., anime series, etc.) - such is its popularity that even though I've never read any of the comics or watched any of the animated features, I'm still vaguely familiar with the name and basic appearance of the characters.
