R.I.P. to movie producer Jon Landau who has passed away at the age of 63. Landau was director James Cameron's favourite producer. Landau won an Academy Award for Best Picture for producing James Cameron's disaster film Titanic (1997). He was also nominated for producing Cameron's science fiction films Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). As of 2024, these are three of the four highest-grossing films of all time. Unlike some producers, Landau was a true cinephile, who reportedly agreed to produce Titanic because the script moved him to tears.

I'm seeing reports and reactions saying that comic artist Michael Zulli has passed away. I am most familiar with his work from The Sandman, and he was the artist on the issue of Swamp Thing with Rick Veitch that never got published when Swamp Thing was supposed to have met Jesus. Rest well good sir.

Sandman #13, the first appearance of Hob Gadling, is one of my favorite books. He also rocked on the Witchcraft mini-series with James Robinson. R.I.P.

They found him and his service dog dead in a car. They think heat stroke.

Shelley Duvall has passed at age 75. Certainly a standout for genre film fans in The Shining and in Popeye. She was a protege of Robert Altman appearing in Nashville and 3 Women.

Just saw the Duvall notice. She was so perfect as Olive Oyl and sucha great actress, in everything. Plus, her Fairytale Theater got a lot of noted talent to adapt those stories for a generation.

Benji Gregory is just sad. 46 is young and the circumstances are startling. I see that after leaving acting and finishing college he enlisted in the US Navy, serving as an aerogrrapher's mate, on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.

And now it was announced that Richard Simmons has passed away, after complications from a fall.
I think I'll stay off the internet before anyone else passes. I signed on twice, today, and first saw Dr Ruth's passing and now Richard's. Death needs to take a holiday.

One obit mentioned Dr. Ruth interviewing Richard Simmons, and here it is.
He also gave us one of the most memorable sketches from Whose Line Is It Anyway.

I signed on twice, today, and first saw Dr Ruth's passing and now Richard's. Death needs to take a holiday. I find it really strange that Simmons passed from a fall when he was one of the fitness gurus in the 80's. Well, he withdrew from the public eye about a decade ago and there has been a lot of speculation over those years about his health. Being a fitness fanatic doesn't necessarily negate a hereditary condition or some other affliction. Jim Fixx, the running guru died of a heart attack, at 52, related to atherosclerosis, and his father had died of a heart attack, at age 43. Simmons was 76, so who knows? If he hit his head in the fall, there could have been concussion issues, there could have been infections from a wound....any number of complications could arise from a fall, at any age. Given the way he seemed to guard his privacy, I suspect his family will probably not release any further information.

I glanced at Dr Ruth's bio....at 17, in Palestine, she joined the Haganah (the predecessor to the Israeli Defense Force) and was trained as a sniper!. She never saw combat, but was wounded by mortar fragments, at age 20, during an attack on Jerusalem, during the War of Independence.
I can't picture that little woman with a rifle in her hands, picking off targets from great distance....let alone people!
