I never understood why his career fell off.

Even his crappy movies like Twister were hits at the box office back in the 90's.

One of his more recent roles (last 15 years) that me and the wife really love was in the movie Frailty (which Paxton also directed). Had never even heard of the movie before and it ended up being one of the best horror/thrillers I've seen in a long time and had a great twist at the end.

I think it might be that he just doesn't dominate movies, like some of the bigger name actors; so, Hollywood didn't peg him as leading man material.  He was a really good actor who played great characters.  I suspect he would have thrived in bigger roles in the older days of Hollywood, rather than the more shallow recent decades.  He was always great as part of an ensemble cast (like Tombstone) and seemed unselfish in his work.  Maybe you have to be selfish to get ahead in Hollywood.

Robert Osborne, the host and face of Turner Classic Movies has passed away at 84.

Osborne was a great host, whose intros helped add a context and background to many great movies; and some that are just entertaining, even if they aren't exactly "classics." He was also a great interviewer, even when his subject didn't portray the same level of class. I remember watching him co-host special guest host nights, with current celebrities (with movies hitting theaters), picking favorite classics. One had Rose McGowan, who looked like she was dressed to go shopping, while Osborne looked dapper in his suit and tie. I guess it is a generational thing, as Alec Baldwin did his stint dressed to match Osborne. Osborne was gracious, nonetheless. The more amusing one was Frank Miller, when that abomination of a Spirit movies was coming out. Miller was dressed like a college student going to a night at the bar, though he was enthusiastic, if occasionally smug. Osborne was oblivious to Miller's credentials outside of movies, and asked Miller if he had always wanted to direct, to which Miller replied, no, he always wanted to create comics and had for the last 30 years. It was somewhat awkward, though Osborne was a pro.

He will be greatly missed.

Robert Osborne is one of those rare men on Earth that I consider a true film historian - his knowledge and understanding of film is unparalleled and knows the definition of every type of movies and then some. His understanding of actors and actresses from 1930 and on is incredible. That Man is a legend in America in terms of knowing what is entertainment in the film world is and knows how a certain Film Director and Producer do in the film that they are responsible for.

We just lost one of the true pioneers in film making, history of films, knowing key actors and actresses, and film lore that's I considered the best of the best of it's kind.

To me, he is irreplaceable and TCM lost more than a friend - he is a living legend in the things that he does.

I just can't imagine TCM without him and that's why I like him so much because when he speaks on Television is voice is crystal clear and I just lost a friend too ...

I always enjoyed Robert Osborne on TCM. He was very knowledgeable about the movies he introduced and I loved his personal takes on the movie stars and the behind the scenes happenings. A classy gentleman that will be missed. I do like the other guy Ben that introduces movies and I am warming up to the new lady that is a host on TCM.
