I feel bad for Glen Frey's family and friends. But...the Eagles are just awful. I'm not a fan (tho I do like a song here and there). And I don't own a single album by them (not even a greatest hits compilation). but to say they are "awful" is not at all accurate. The individual members are/were INCREDIBLY talented, and I own works from almost every one of them (primarily Henley, but also Walsh, Frey, Timothy B Schmidt, and Don Felder (who's tracks on the "Heavy Metal" soundtrack are among my favorites on that album). so "awful" isn't fair, nor accurate. but what IS accurate is to say the Eagles are boring
It's like all the talent cancels each other out up there on stage, and we're left with watching paint dry. bleh.

I always enjoyed the Eagles. Me too. I have their first 5 albums (their 3rd, "On the Border", I have on both CD and vinyl) and their Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 and 2. To me though, the early Eagles albums with Bernie Leadon in the band are the best. Those are really great early '70s country rock albums. After Leadon left they went a bit more AOR, but grew in populatrity. |
