...SAGA.
How about you guys, if you had to cut your budget to one regular book (monthly or not) what would it be? What can your world NOT do without?
My interest in Marvel and DC wanes from time to time as their output varies, or I reach a saturation point, but I am in love with the world/s that Vaughan and Staples are creating. More importantly I am in love with the characters they have realised, and as long as they keep telling, I'll keep buying.
So whats your poison? Or should that be kryptonite?

If I was only allowed one new book a month... it'd be Astro City.

Mine would be The Shadow Green Hornet Dark Nights. I just can't live without it!
From Dynamite Comics.

Never thought I'd think that about a Rucka book, but right now it'd be Lazarus. It's just the best monthly series in a while, IMHO, especially considering the amazing back-material exclusive to the floppies that make the scope of the story grow by giant leaps! And the monthly science articles lifted from the news by Rucka also are a treat. But at the core, a great political action dystopian epic with many well-handled characters, great Michael Lark art (although I don't really like the inker they brought in the last few issues). But all in all, the ultimate non-trade-waiting book.

Today? None of them. I do enjoy the books that I pick up (only 3 regular monthly pulls currently: Star Wars, Darth Vader, and Aquaman), but I wouldn't miss any of them if my budget didn't allow me to get them. If I have to pick one of them, it would be Darth Vader, as Aquaman has fallen in quality greatly, especially since the two-month break, and Star Wars is OK but not great; Vader, however, has an interesting protagonist, decent supporting characters, and seems to actually be less "let's create cool moments" and more "let's tell a good story" than Star Wars.
Once the post-Secret Wars books come out, we'll see, as I have multiple books I'll be getting, at least initially. However, I find myself less and less enamored with new books and more interested in reading my back issues, so I'm skeptical there would be anything in that group that would be "must have".

I'd find it hard to cut my pull list under twenty titles, but my choice for one comic is Astro City.

It's annual, but Love and Rockets is important to who I am as a person if that makes any sense.
And other comics aren't so much.

It's not hypothetical for me, there have been more than a few times where for various reasons I've cut my buying down to just Hellboy. It's my favorite comic of all time and it only gets better as it goes.

I think I'm going to have to say Lazarus as well. That's the one book I look forward to reading the most each month.

Probably Ms. Marvel for me (as my daughter reads it too)... just for me, it'd be Astro City now that Fables is done.

Right now, there's nothing I couldn't "do without". my regular pull is so small anymore. Star Wars is probably my most enjoyed and anticipated at the moment. I wish I had something I was truly excited over and loving that much but it's been a while.
