Sorry man, Kirby has a lifetime " get out of jail free" card. Maybe on his early work that he did but not so much on his later stuff. For this cover he "goes to jail with no sign of parole." I don't think there's anything wrong with that cover. Not much right with it either--it's just kind've generic. Not that Kirby didn't have a couple clunkers, like this one, where he seemed to be working from an M.C. Escher layout:

Is there anything more generic? Or rip-offish? Spawn meets Batman meets Iron Man with a Werewolf By Night moon in the background. Blah Plus, the title of this story is "Life on the Edge". How original. And dark.

Escher layout: Made me think of this one, done with a similar respect for the relative sizes of skyscrapers and humans. Still, I'd rather look at a million of these Kirby beauties than even one of the monstrosities posted earlier. His crowd-scene covers are four-color Breughels. Say what you will about Kirby, but the exuberance, the effort, the energy of his work, most of it done when deadlines mattered and when he was the artistic arm (pun unintended, but apropos) of Marvel Comics, are even more impressive.

Just about any cover from Rock-N-Roll Comics could qualify. Here is a typically awful example: Lol ... he looks as bad as his singing is.

What's wrong with that one? Great line work (I assume by Cowan), and a nicely creepy depiction of the nightmarish title character.

Not a fan of Sam Keith Keith is an acquired taste, but I don't mind his work.

I don't even like the Neal Adams/Jim Aparo version of Joker so that Sam Keith version is just beyond the pale for me.
Cei-U! He should see a dentist about that underbite!

I am usually happy to defend highly stylized and cartoony art here, but I have always hated this trippy triptych by Mark Badger. I've decided I'm going to try to be more positive about the artistic choices presented in some of these threads. As a result I'm only going to make positive remarks about these covers:
They appear to have done an excellent job of coloring within the lines. On the first two, the lettering is clear and legible, without blending into the background.

Huge huge fan of Sam Kieth!!! My ultimate original art wet dream would be to own that one : Sure he can't draw a gun for the life of him, he uses many shortcuts, but he still manages to achieve something highly unique, charming and sometimes even impressive.

1. Broken back from arched spine on the female ? Check. 2. Long elastic man neck on Spider-man? Check. 3. Head on Spider-man almost as big as his torso? Check.

4. Bad coloring? Check. 5. Excessive callouts obscuring key cover component (Doc Ock's arms)? Check.

Um.....what??!?!?!?! Where are their legs? And other arm? Their features and hair are as bland as bland can be! Her eye shadow looks very strange, he has this weird red face shading. Is it heartbreak because they both lose their legs?
