I doubt they would do that, unless an individual creator preferred to release their stories as longer form graphic novels instead of monthly issues -- which, in theory would be conceivable since Image is all about giving creators the freedom to do what they want. But I'm assuming payouts for their creator-owned series are tied to the monthly cycle, so unless a creator had another form of regular income (or they had enough money saved up to last them six months or so between releases), graphic novels would basically mean they are getting paid only a couple of times a year. That might work for a writer, who can support himself with other monthly series work, but I doubt that would be feasible for an artist. Image only does the lower priced trade for the first volume. After that, it's the regular price. So I don't think that it necessarily encourages people to trade wait, since the later volumes, while cheaper, are closer in price to buying single issues (and as I pointed out earlier, lack the backmatter content that many titles are including these days). I think it's designed more to lower the barrier to entry for people who want to jump on to a series that's already started. Image titles tend to generate a lot of buzz (and speculation) in the early issues, and sometimes that makes it hard for someone to try out or jump on to a series a couple of issues in if prices for #1 and #2 are going through the roof. Also, unlike Marvel and DC, Image titles don't really do relaunches or reboots, and they usually have a built-in end point, so making the first trade inexpensive encourages people to try out a new series and stay on for the rest. I think it's actually a pretty smart business strategy. If you read Justin Jordan's comment son the $9.99 price point, he does a pretty good cost-benefit analysis, but he also points out Image pays creators their royalties from sales only twice a year. So their is no monthly cycle of payment even on the monthly comics. -M Well then, I guess that destroys that line of reasoning! Thanks MRP! ;-)

It's not Image, but Empowered from Dark Horse is a series of graphic novels, that are then collected into super thick hardbacks every three volumes.

I buy floppies, but since a lot of my purchases are from Image these days, I'm getting annoyed that I'm paying $2.99, $3.50, or $3.99 an issue, only to have them collect in a $9.99 trade for the 1st 5-6 issues! so I think Image may have lost me as a floppy purchaser and I'll just trade wait for anything that looks interesting from them. Yea there is a video on you tube of a guy talking about that and how it's frustrating.

That's how it started for me. I fell behind, trades were an easy way to catch up.

Floppies all the way. What's a trade?

1. I think I am done with modern singles/floppies. I do it mainly to support my LCS, but I *think* there is a way to support them without getting monthly floppy copies. They were doing something with digital a bit back, working out kinks or something right before they moved. I'm going to look into it. I want to read current series to support them, but the paper gets to be too much, and honestly, I want to get floppies for older books, the gems in the $1 bins.
2. I will get hardcover collections if I can. That is my favorite way to read collections. However, Marvel and DC don't keep up on their HC collections quite as well as their TPB collections, so I read what I can get. If it's in TPB, I'll get it to read it, and then later hope they'll come out with an HC version for me to collect. Marvel is great with the Masterworks, but DC lacks in their Archives. Things will start to be collected, and then they just stop. And I could hold out for an Omnibus here and there, but those seem to go out of print (if they even do it in that format to begin with) so quickly, that I typically miss it.

1. I think I am done with modern singles/floppies. *gasp* The collector in me still wants the actual comics, especially if there's a variant of interest. But I'll still pick up a HC of the series if I get a good deal on it. Like all those Batman New 52 HCs I got.

In the past year - most of my Comic Reading is through my Apple Mac Computer and the only two books that I get in floppies are Batman 66, Wonder Woman 77, and Sensation Comics - all the rest through Comixology that my dear friend set it up for me. I rarely deals with Trades at all.

But I just want to read the stories, but if they are in collection, I try to get the nicest collection I can get in hardcover. But if HC is not available, I'll settle for TPB. OR, if it IS collected in HC, but entirely too expensive, I'll settle for TPB. Some of the DC Archives books that are out of print are going for prices I am not willing to pay.

Not really interested in trades. As a collector, I want the original comics, whether new or old (and I have an illogical but passionate hatred of the term 'floppies').

the only two books that I get in floppies are Batman 66, Wonder Woman 77, and Sensation Comics *snicker* I live in a small one bedroom condo that's 650 square feet and I don't have a whole lot of room to deal with and that's why I get my comics online rather in print/floppies.
