War comics don't get enough love IMO. Just wondering what some people's favourites are all time, from any series or company. Be it because of the art or the story, does not matter.
My favourite run is Marvel's Combat Kelly. I particularly love the last issue. I thought it was a great way to close out the series and I was not expecting it when I read the run. That and Maus...really enjoy that story and need to read the second part.

There are a lot of really great war comics that were done over the years.
Kurtzman's Frontline Combat and Two-Fisted Tales.
Archie Goodwin's Blazing Combat.
Garth Ennis' War Stories and Battlefields.
Any of the above can be my favorite on any given day.

Some of my favorite war comics... You Can't Pin a Medal on a Gorilla is one of my favorite stories of all time, and some damn fine Kubert art too. Joe Kubert's (sgain) Yossel... Eric Shanower's Age of Bronze sure it's the Trojan War but it's still a damn fine war comic... here's a sample panel... Any of Sam Glanzman's USS Stevens material whereever it's appeared-most recently in Joe Kubert Presents... and again a sample panel from the stories there... Will Eisner's Last Day in Viet Nam... I've not read enough Garth Ennis war comics, but my favorite of wha tI have read was this one... Night Witches form the Battlefields series. not yet favorites, but hopeful-based on the recommendations of some here (DanB I think) I picked up the run of Marvel's Semper Fi and have been putting together a run of The Nam both of which I look forward to diving into soonish, plus I have a ton of DC war comics I have yet to dive into as well, and I've just started sampling some of the Enemy Ace stories I have and have quite enjoyed them. There's a few that are not quite war comics but deal with modern conflicts too, that I will lost here as a postscript to the war comics... Joe Kubert's (sense a theme here?) Fax from Sarajevo a sample page... Joe Sacco's Safe Area Gorazde... sample page... and also by Sacco... Palestine another sample page... -M

Growing up as a kid of the 80s, I devoured GI Joe comics. As I got older, I expanded into the war comics. Some of my favorites: - Charley's War (probably the best war comic ever produced) - Fax from Saravejo (Kubert at his finest) - Enemy Ace: War Iydll (Stunning George Pratt artwork) - Blazing Combat - Grendel: Devil & Deaths - Vietnam Journal (Don Lomax) - Two Fisted Tales - Most of Ennis' war comics (War Stories, Enemy Ace, Phantom Eagle)

Here's my favorite war series: I've only read a handful of the "War that Time Forgot" series, but they are not quickly er forgotten.

I never got into war comics, but my father enjoyed Sgt. Rock as well as Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos. Blackhawk too.

I'm a major fan of well-done war comics, but my favorite is Charley's War, which I consider the pinnacle of the genre.

- Grendel: Devil & Deaths Glad to see this on here. One of the finest minis ever produced. I never really thought of it as a war story, but it definitely is. RIP, Eddy Biukovic!

Glad to see this on here. One of the finest minis ever produced. I never really thought of it as a war story, but it definitely is. RIP, Eddy Biukovic! It's the Bosnian/Serbian war. Darco and Eddy were pretty much on the frontlines when they created this mini. Yeah, I knew that aspect of it, although I think Eddy had already moved to Canada while he drawing it. (Most of the Croatian creators who worked in N American comics in the '90s were living in Toronto to escape the war. I believe only Macan remained in country.) Grendel encompases so many genres within its stories, but I've always thought of that era as sci-fi adventure foremost. Most of those stories beginning with God and Devil through War Child and the various Tales spin-offs play up the sci-fi and adventure aspects, but Devils and Deaths does fall more squarely into the war genre. In fact, the only sci-fi elements that stand out in my mind are the laser sword (the very moving solution to the monster problem) and the very end when the new Khan's forces fly in.

I've probably mentioned this before, but Kubert's Enemy Ace is my favorite DC Comic.

I really like...
Charley's War The 'Nam When The Wind Blows (well, it's a nuclear war comic) Charley's War The Other Side Commando (not really, it was terribly generic for the most part, but I definitely have a nostalgic attachment to it)
...and, of course, the best war comic of all time, Charley's War.

I'm a big fan of war comics, if they are done right.
My favorite is probably Unknown Soldier. I'm also very partial to Sgt. Fury, Our Fighting Forces featuring The Losers, Blackhawk, War is Hell, and The 'Nam.
Others I like include Sgt. Rock, Weird War Tales, All-American Men of War featuring Johnny Cloud, and Star Spangled War Stories featuring Enemy Ace.
