It was a joke.

Could you point out the ones he created? No Lee, no Marvel superhero line. No Marvel superhero line, no Kirby and Ditko. Kirby couldn’t get work at DC. Ditko was doing nothing work at Charlton. see how that works ? There is evidence that Goodman was about to close the comics division before the arrival of Ditko and Kirby. And 5hat it wasxKirby, not Lee who pushed for a return of superhero. See how that works.

Except Kirby wasn’t in charge of anything.

I'm wondering if that photo of Stan wasn't a joking reference to the iconic pin-up of Burt Reynolds in Cosmo back in 1972. The Stan photo must have been around 1981, when the Batman-Hulk tabloid came out. {Spoiler: Click to show}

Except Kirby wasn’t in charge of anything. True, and he was not the spearhead of trying to experiment in the medium to the extent of Lee, who was in a greater position of authority / decision-making (and of course, he was very aware of what was happening at DC of the period).

Guys, haven't we flogged this dead horse enough in the Stan Lee thread? For crying out loud, move on.
Cei-U! I summon the redundant reiterations!

So is the Stan Lee thread the original and this is the reprint? Or is one of them a holographic collector's item cover?
I think the stupidest variant cover I recall getting a stupid high resale value was literally a blank white cover intended for the buyer to draw on. It was nothing. And people bought it.

Yeah, but a good portion of them used them to get various artists to draw something for them at conventions and for commissions. So, there was a method to the madness, for some.

Yeah, but a good portion of them used them to get various artists to draw something for them at conventions and for commissions. So, there was a method to the madness, for some. I have several con sketches and commissions done on those blank covers, and I have a small pile of them downstairs I keep in reserve to get more done if/when budgets permit. I've never paid more than cover price for the blanks (often less with pull discounts getting them from overstock bins at shows or shops). I think they're a great idea, but I don't think in and of themselves they should command a premium price and I absolutely do not get people slabbing them still blank (after you've had a commission done on them maybe but still blank?). But to each their own. -M edit to add an example-here's the jam cover sketches I got done for the Action #1000 blank variant. There's a Krypto sketch on the back as well and spots for more when budget allows. and I got 2 different Micronauts sketch covers done on blanks for IDW's #1 Acroyear and Biotron... so I am actually a fan of those blank covers!

Speaking of sketches in books: I have a friend who signed a certain war book of his in a creative way. He would do a small sketch of the main character, and then use a rubber stamp he had had made specially for the occasion to add a more elaborate background to it. It was fast, and it looked darned good!
