I'll do another "There. I said it" to move us onto something different:
Frank Miller is the most influential comic book creator of the last half century, and his output from 1978-1999 includes some of the absolute stand outs of the period. (Meanwhile, let's pretend he retired in 1999.)

Alan Grant is a massively underrated writer. There. I said it.

I've grown used to modern recoloring if it's done right, but I hate it when the coloring is too bright. I especially hate when the panels don'r have any details in the background and they fill in the space with blocks of color. Having said that, there are times when I see old newsprint comics and am horrified at the coloring. Modern re-coloring of older comics is the real issue I have, especially when they try and apply modern techniques and just make the books ugly. It honestly sucks out the soul
Like you said, there's also the issue of making the comics look too bright when compared to how muted everything looked in the original.
Marvel has been getting better in both regards. Here's a comparison of Captain America #261 and it's re-print in Epic Collection volume 9 I'm glad more attention is being drawn to the utter crappiness of Marvel and DC reprint colouring in recent years - thanks Jose Villarubia - because it's been a bug beat of mine for 30 years. I understand the reason why- cost cutting- but the tone and the atmosphere of the art changes on the shiny bright white paper, and important it takes away all texture as well as brightening everything. I could write 10,000 more words on the subject, but it's lunchtime 😅

How about an 'I admit it'?
Comic shops in Europe tend to charge about double for a trade vs Amazon, and I find the concept of donating to a shop a difficult one- as such, I've only purchased one trade from a comic book store since the 1990s.

Ultimately, prices for everything being what they are, you have to do whats's best for your finances.

I wouldn't mind if the comic book stores only charged a little more, but the fact they could literally buy those books online themselves and still afford not to charge cover price is kinda mad. I have no idea if the differences are so extreme in the States...

I hear you there! When there are new trades I want, I often order them from my local shop along with my regular pull, because I want to have a local shop. He give 10% off, which is definitely alot less than amazon does, but I fee like it's worth it to support the shop. I do buy non-new releases on Amazon or wherever I can get the best price, I feel like that's a decent splitting the difference.

A little late, but on the topic of "live and let live," I find the older I get, the less I care about what anyone else does with anyone or anything as long as nobody's getting hurt and is participating willingly/legally.
You mind your business, and I will mind mine. Cheers.

I almost never buy a Tpb on Amazon. It’s usually cheaper on eBay or another place called half price trades.

Alan Grant is a massively underrated writer. There. I said it. He is. I love so much of his work, including the obvious choices of 2000 AD and Batman. (I love the story in Detective Comics #590)

I get the majority of my Hardcovers well below cover price, unless they are IDW....those tend to be OOP and can sell for considerably over retail price. I'm seeing some of the 'Best of...' Archies for as high as $89 on ebay. (RRP was 24.95).

Since Amazon lost interest in packing with any competence, I do need another place to buy from. They used to use book mailers, but now just toss the book in an envelope or oversized box and leave it to the mercy of the awful mail system.( I had one goon toss a 15lb Taschen book over my 7 foot side fence. 🤦♂️)
