The only interesting iteration of Hal Jordan was when he was Parallax. There I said it. Now that is some serious cage rattling. Who's the bigger square, Hawkman, Hal Jordan or Barry Allen? I've actually been enjoying Darwyn Cooke's portrayal of Hal Jordan in New Frontier, fwiw.

His Barry Allen was pretty good, too.

Haven't read a Green Lantern comic in 20 years and never saw the movie.
There, I said it in the dark.

I agree with this. The Hal Jordan Spectre series is one of the most in-depth character self-introspections ever published in comics. The writer allows Jordan to de-construct himself-- that's really the foundation of the series.

Hal Jordon has never been interesting no matter what they call him. I felt he was even more insufferable as Pharallax. I will submit though I have never read him as Spectre but I think his loosing streak with me would continue even if I did read it.

The ones you should read are the Kyle Rayner ones... the plot is a bit repetitive at times, but Daryl Banks is the ultimate Green Lantern artist... his ring stuff is worth the price of admission.

^Totally agree. Either through Hal's personality or the creative team, his ring stuff was about as drab as warm tapwater.

Yeah, I was actually calling out Big 2 above, totally not only agree manga are comics but IMO representative of where the industry seems to really get it right. I understand the gist of your comment of course...it's calling the Big 2 "the industry" versus acknowledging it's a more diverse set of big players these days. But I think the spirit of the conversation was premised around an observation on a notable Big 2 practice. I get that. But that is just one of my bugaboos with this particular conversation. There's a large contingent of folks who talk about comics to whom "Comics" means Big Two superhero comics and nothing else matters. And, by and large that myopia extends throughout the actual history of funnybooks. But it's particularly egregious with regard to modern comics. While the manga boom seems to have subsided, they still seem to be doing well. My grandkids have read My Hero Academia, Captain Underpants, Wimpy Kid, Bone, etc. All comics. But they aren't 32 page superhero funnybooks that are sold exclusively in niche stores so they don't count somehow. I think the fact that "they aren't 32 page superhero funnybooks that are sold exclusively in niche stores" is exactly why they sell. Of course they are comics. And they are doing something(s) right that "real comics" aren't.

Consider yourself lucky, on the movie front.

You are not missing a thing, either. GL as a comic has not been solid since the 80s, and as far as that film was concerned, anything with Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim as part of the "writing" team was doomed to be garbage--much like the piles of crap that was the majority of the Berlanti/CW DC TV series.

Why the F does Ghost Rider need a shotgun?

Why the F does Ghost Rider need a shotgun? It's a holdover from the 90s and the Midnight Sons era, when Danny Ketch was Ghost Rider and they brought back Johnny Blaze, but not as Ghost Rider. Instead he was a biker who used a shotgun that fired hellfire instead of buckshot. -M
