Wish this was reprinted in one compact comic, and in glorious colour, and maybe used as an insert in the new album due at the end of 2023. There I said it while playing Girls on Film.
I assume that strip appeared in Look-In, right? They also did a Beatles biography strip too, and an Adam Ant one in the early 80s (though if memory serves, that was a weird fantasy adventure strip starring Adam Ant, rather than a biographical thing). Did he wake up 60 years after being frozen in ice and solve crimes, with a plucky, modern female assistant?

Nah, he materialised in London, 1980 with two drummers, a face full of war paint, and some killer chooooons!

I can't handle Daredevil in black & white; the early Bill Everett and Wally Wood issues do look nice in B&W, but when you get into the Gene Colan era, man, you really NEED that colour to best appreciate the art. I kind of disagree. I read Colan's stuff in the HTD Essentials and adored it in B&W, kind of gave it a seedy, noir look Punisher Max is an astounding series and my favourite Marvel title 2001-10. There, I F-bombed it.
Ennis' Punisher, Punisher 2099, and Space Punisher are the only times that I bother reading the character because they don't take the title too seriously

While Icctrombone is certainly our resident Rob Liefeld aficionado, I'm also going to say something about CCF's perpetual punching bag. What I've always liked about Rob (even though I'm admittedly more into his Marvel stuff versus Image) is that what he lacks in technique he makes up for in enthusiasm. He's always reminded me of the uber fan in junior high/high school who learned to draw from looking at other comic books and isn't really a fully trained artist by any means but there's this "enthusiastic fanboy" that always shines through. If I can accept cruddy Golden Age art frequently and still enjoy the material for what it is, I can certainly enjoy Rob. Captain America chest and all (ok, that might be pushing it).

What I really like about Liefeld is that’s he’s a smart business man. He left a company where he was making millions and took a gamble on himself. Also, Rob took art classes. Is it possible that he purposely draws the way he does to create buzz , positive or not ?

I want to say that in the 90s a columnist in the CBG made a similar point and comparing Liefeld to Ed Wood (though Leifeld got a much better payout for his efforts).

I've heard that and agree largely. His enthusiasm accounts for some amount of his apparent skill gap below the knee.

If there was ever a place beneath the very bottom of crud, its occupied by Wood and his menagerie of no-talents...and a CBG columnist thought he was comparable to Wood. Oh, the horror!

Tor Johnson man!! You can't disrespect Tor. Of course most of what I know of Ed Wood is from the Johnny Depp film. But whatever place his films may have beneath the very bottom of crud, I'm thinking Manos: The Hands of Fate can be found even lower.

My favorite Golden Age Superman story may very well be the first appearance of Mr. Mxyzptlk (or "Mxyztplk" as it were at the time) from Superman #30, and also my favorite Mxy story period. This scene still cracks me up to this day:

This scene still cracks me up to this day: This story is a condensed retelling of a long sequence from the Superman newspaper strip. Public response to Mxy's debut in the strip was so enthusiastic that this story was rushed into production so that it would appear on newsstands as close to the wrap-up of the strip sequence as possible. If memory serves, it was the best-selling Superman-starring comic book of the year, no small feat at a time when both Superman and Action routinely sold in the millions.
Cei-U! I summon the bona fide hit!

Liefeld is more in league with Coleman Francis, at least Wood tried and failed specularly

This scene still cracks me up to this day: Before he knew how to read himself my nephew would constantly ask me to read this comic to him because he found the part where the mayor started talking like a donkey hilarious and I would provide the requisite sound effects.

I hate it when a collected edition wastes so much space with big margins, it's not like I want to scribble in some anecdotes.
There, I said it.

Probably a factor of the proportions of the digital scans used for printing and the final size for publication, plus the method for printing.
