Actually, IIRC, there was quite a bit of backlash over this last cover you posted. I don't remember all of the details, but it was pretty much along the lines of "hey, isn't that a teenage girl you have dressed and posed like that?" Would love it if anyone else could corroborate, if only so I can continue to trust my memory Absolutely. Not only was Wonder Gril's depiction widely condemned for being wildly inappropriate, but the rest of the cover was also severely judged. The perspective is weird, you have a hard time seeing who that caped character is, and the purple guy is drawn so small that he doesn't seem to be a star of the book.

Yay, I'm not crazy...ok, I'm probably crazy, but at least I'm not forgetful.

I find it interesting that Scott Campbell was savaged over this cover of a young female- But no one has said a peep that this person- Now looks like this: Actually, IIRC, there was quite a bit of backlash over this last cover you posted. But I don't get outrage over fiction much myself at all.

Is that last cover not the one that shut down CBR? And I don't get it over the Iron Man cover. But I don't get outrage over fiction much myself at all. Yep. The reaction to that cover led to the great CBR reboot and the ousting of the Classic Forums and the creation of this forum. It was an internet breaker, so I am not sure where ICC gets the idea no one said a peep about it. Maybe because the women who posted the most cogent criticism of it was receiving death threats from outraged fanboys, jhhad her accounts hacked and info made public all in an attempt to silence any criticism of their cheesecake fantasies leading some people to be afraid to say anything about it. -M

I do remember that the cover was criticized for perspective issues and that Wonder girl had a possible boob job. I though glorified bodies were par for the course when it came to comic books.

Objectionable things (Wonder Girl is supposed to be what 15 in the story?) are always par for the course until someone objects, and some people get offended others are offended and then some people try to justify the objectionable behavior by saying it's always been that way. -M

I have to Check but I think that she's 19. I believe that part of the criticism to the cover was that she was an underage girl, but I could be wrong. -M

Both the new covers exemplify a style of superhero artwork that I detest in itself, totally apart from the question of whether they're offensive in terms of sexual exploitation. For me, that would depend on the respective ages of the characters concerned. I hate the artwork so much that it's impossible for me to find those covers atractive in any way.

I miss superheroes wearing their trunks over their tights. There, I said it! Damn straight! There is a practical consideration; what if your tights split during the fight? The trunks help cover them! Conversely, if the trunks tear, you have tights underneath.

They are, however, an invitation to a super-wedgie.
