Ooh! Grant Morrison Wonder Woman.
No Scooby Doo Team-Up, though. There goes DC off my pull list.

Oh great, Neal Adams is also the writer...oh no! As long as Coming of the Supermen is not Batman Odyssey... ...which was still kinda fun if you like comics that are on acid.

Hmm things of interest in the DC solicitations for me....
Dr. Fate Vol. 1 (the new Sony Liew series) Black Canary Vol. 1 (DCYou series) Gotham Academy Vol. 2 Gotham Central omnibus Superman: The Golden Age Vol. 1
as for the Adams Supes, wait and see and possibly get the trade but yeah after Batman Odyssey and First X-Men, I am highly skeptical of anything Neal is doing now and my enjoyment of it.
Marvel -maybe Black Widow by Waid and Samnee, maybe wait for it on Unlimited, we'll see

Very excited to see a Gotham Central Omni.. I've been wanting to read it for quite a while. Weird that they're re-re-re-re-releasing the 1st bit of Golden Age Superman... Why not just re-release on of the other many collections they've done? And why tease us by calling it Volume 1?

It looks to have about the same content as the first 2 volumes of the Superman Chronicles from what I can tell, and the Chronicles for the most part have been discontinued, so this may be the replacement for them. -M

Well if everytime they release subsequent volumes, those volumes have diminishing sales, it tells them the interest level isn't there for the material in the later volumes, but they can sell the early stuff. There comes a point of diminishing returns when it is no longer profitable for them to keep putting out volumes in a reprint series. Yet if the print runs of the earlier material keeps selling through, they know they can make a profit on them. Maybe someone like IDW or Dark Horse could get by on the lower profits on earlier volumes, but DC would likely have to include the rights for the earlier volumes which are still profitable for them in such a deal, and it may not be something they are willing to do. My guess is that a lot of the continued sales on the earliest material comes from libraries, who replace volumes they have that wear out due to circulation, and later volumes in a series circulate less so at some point libraries have no interest in buying later volumes either, but those early volumes continue to circulate, get worn out, and need replacing. A new edition of the earliest stuff works for that. Later volumes in the series that will not sell or circulate as much, do not. If those later volumes projected to sell at profitable levels, DC would be all over releasing them. But they are not. -M

*sigh* at that rate I've better off breaking down and buying the original late 40s/early 50s books.
Maybe someday, after the kids are grown.

*sigh* at that rate I've better off breaking down and buying the original late 40s/early 50s books. Maybe someday, after the kids are grown. The problem is not only are you not pre-ordering a few thousand copies, but the sum and total of all pre-orders from all retail outlets (book trade and Diamond) probably won't exceed a few thousand copies, which means there's no way they can do a profitable print run, so unless and until someone who "wants" them shows them the money, those issues/runs/stories will not be collected except in the occasional best of/sampler type trades. I would like to have those issues too (I'd really like the GA Spectre stuff to come back into print as copies of the GA Spectre archives are hard to find and even harder to afford when found these days). But you, me and the folks here aren't the typical customer ofr comics these days, and even when all of us can agree on material we would like to have, we can't agree on format-the small niche market for the stories is even further fractured by those who don't want trades, only originals, those who want digital not print, those who want only deluxe hardcover format collections not trades, those who want affordable trade collections and will accept black and white, those who won't buy it unless it is in color, those who....get the picture. So even the audience who might want that stuff and be enough to make it profitable, won't come together enough to agree on a format that would sell to all of them, and that fractured part of an already niche market who would support one of these formats but not enough is not large enough to make any of the formats profitable enough to move forward on it. -M
