Perhaps my wording is off and I should have just said which Marvel comic series. I was generally looking for an opinion on which Marvel hero/team/person's title or run of issues from the decade is overall the best and worth reading as a whole. And best can be very open...best artwork, best story. Just an overall opinion on what the best series was that spanned the decade.
X-Men was left off because they did come in mid decade and I would already assume many votes would go that way.

I pretty much agree with the group.. epic Avengers era, COnan shouldn't count . I do think that 'best story' might go to Demon in the Bottle, but the rest of Iron Man in the 70s was inconsistent at best.

Very hard for me. Spider-Man varies, and where as the art was always excellent on The Avengers, some of the stories didn't quite do it for me, despite loving the franchise.
Master of Kung Fu starts off a little soft but that run was excellent.
Tomb of Dracula is way up there too.
Howard the Duck was Gerber-tastic.
Thor and Hulk were both very solid as far as I'm concerned, but the vote for me goes to the Fantastic Four.
Yes, have to agree that Conan was absolutely epic, but the first one to come to my mind was the FF.

I must be the only one here who doesn't read Conan.
In fact, the only thing I ever remember was thumbing through a magazine, and some black chick is trying to get into his pants and he tells her she'd have an easier time mating with her panther than him. That was a laugh...

I agree that Doctor Strange took a nosedive after Englehart left, and I would argue that the same could be said of the Avengers after he was driven off that book, but that the deterioration was for a time disguised by the continuing presence of George Perez. The same illusion that the overall quality of the series was being maintained might have happened on Doctor Strange as well if Frank Brunner or the Colan/Palmer team had stuck around after Englehart's departure.
People talk about the Roger Stern Doctor Strange but I've never been able to see much going on there outside a competently written but in the end pretty standard Marvel comic. It could be that I haven't given it enough of a chance, though. And the artwork isn't there either, IMO. I love Michael Golden, but a few covers and one single story don't constitute an era or a run, for me.
I haven't voted because like everyone else I don't understand the presence of Conan, Tomb of Dracula, Werewolf by Night, etc. How are they superhero books? And if they are, what about MoKF or Howard the Duck, or anything at all?

The brief Conway run in between was just okay, though it had its moments. But far from nosediving after Englehart left, I think Avengers actually got better with the Shooter/Perez and Shooter/Byrne teams.

My Top 10 1970s Marvel Series
1. Avengers 2. Amazing Spider-Man (as a kid in the 1970s put Marvel Tales in this spot because Amazing Spider-Man was always sold out) 3. Spidey Super Stories 4. Marvel Team Up 5. Invaders 6. Star Wars 7. Captain America 8. Fantastic Four 9. Godzilla 10. Defenders (probably because I've only read the first 14 issues, if I read them all I suspect Iron Man might wind up here)
I've never read Conan or Tomb of Dracula and have no desire to do so.

This poll is way too flawed. No X-Men listed because it started mid decade yet you have The Champions that lasted a whole 18 issues? And all the great series not specifically listed are doomed to fail in this poll (Dr Strange,Howard,Warlock,Killraven,Black Panther etc)

Well there is an Other option....forget there even is a poll if it is annoying people that much. My general purpose was to initiate discussion on the best Marvel title of the 1970's. I stated superhero out of habit but really, I want discussion on ALL titles that spanned the 70's or existed only during that time frame.

I think it's fine, as it's doing exactly what you wanted - sparking a lot of discussion. That's what it's all about, after all.

I voted Conan. Not a superhero, but he was in the poll, I suppose as a great 70's Marvel book in general.
My vote is based on the awesomeness of the first 24 issues. largely by Windsor-Smith. But the saga of Belit is all sorts of awesomeness as well.
My second place would have been Tomb of Dracula.
Third would have been Defenders.
Fourth is Incredible Hulk
Fifth is Fantastic Four
Sixth is Avengers.
Seventh is Spider-Man.
I'll stop there.

Of the actual superhero titles, Captain America by a wide margin.
I'd say Captain America based on the Engleahart and Kirby runs... I'd call Englehart's Cap as good as any Marvel run by a dude who didn't create the character. Ground-breaking, really thoughtful, brought a whole new level of characterization to the book and surprisingly funny.
With a huge Falcon retcon mis-step at the end. Sigh.
Of the non-superhero series: Howard the Duck first and Tomb of Dracula second.
I've read maybe eight issues of Conan - They were really good, but I'm reluctant to put the mental energy to dive into sword and sorcery comics. So I'll abstain on that.
