My next big "flip" is to unload my copy of New Mutants #98. Marvel is putting out a $1 reprint early next year, so I will buy that to have the story, but I figure I can get at least 3 bills for my copy, which is VF to VF+. The advantage of that book is that it's unlikely to have been re-read very often!

I have just officially lost my mind on the speculation bubble. Embrace it, it's your friend. 'Flipping books' for some decent change has subsidized many of my own purchases that I plan to keep, sometimes by a full 100%. I flipped a couple of cool Star Wars variants (I got them for $14 each, sold them for $25 each)...that $22 is going towards my new issues over the next 2 weeks. I estimate I've bought over 1,500 comics this way..... Yeah, I've done that. I never consciously speculate, but sometimes you just gotta be all "This... this should not be in the dollar box." It's been a little harder to do this on the internet for me, lately, though - I made a bunch of money a couple years back searching Alibris and Biblio and etc. for tpbs that had accumulated in value, but it seems harder to do now-a-days. But I've had some crazy luck at antique stores recently - where generally SOME stuff is always crazy overpriced but some stuff might be underpriced too, 'cause comics are .05% of the owner's business and it's not worth his time to keep up with the ridiculous speculator bubbles.

Im sorry Phil, I don't get the reference. I'm so late with this and Jodoc already explained about Dick Cavett, but it's funny and bears repeating. Jodoc is correct that Cavett was somewhat diminutive and this fact was referenced by him more than anyone.
Your original comment included the phrase "Damn sawed-off runt." During the run of his late-night talk show on ABC in the early-seventies, Cavett received a letter from an irate viewer (probably rendered in crayon) which read in part, "You little sawed-off, communist, faggot runt. . ."
Cavett reported that he had written back, "I am not sawed-off."

At least he's got a good sense of humor. I've heard his name referenced a lot in fiction and TV. I think he might have been in (whether he was alive or it was an impression) Simpsons. I kniw I've heard the name with a lot of the old time entertainers that I was not around to know. If between both my grandparents (father's parents) I hadn't been either watching old time science fiction, monster movies, or westerns and baseball I might have known some of them.

My wife just saw it as a present and got it.

After getting almost 100 issues of the run for $.50 or less only 2 years ago I don't really see myself paying that much for it...but you never know.

I'm hoping that she stole one for under 25. I saw one particular auction that ended at around 17 dollars.

I just sold mine to Lonestar (along with a bunch of Slott She-Hulks) for a couple Conan's I was missing and a pile of triangle era-Superman. I always hated Dick and Barbara as a couple (he belongs with Starfire if you want to couple him up, IMO), so I had no particular attachment.

Too bad, maybe we could have made a deal.

I think they graded it G+ The Slott She-Hulk's they were paying like $2 each for.. no idea why... seems like they should be bargain bin fodder.

So I got an on-line discount code from the Campbell exclusive store and rushed in to order a few exclusives for customers who've been asking for Spidey and Spider-Gwen...and what's the value of the coupon after a trial entry on a $20 book???
Get this.
$1.00 Nah.....bye bye....

I don't really care about low grades as long as the cover is intact. I have 2 long boxes of Superman titles from that era. I remember buying them in the 90's for 10 cents each.
