What else can I say about Will Eisner that hasn't already been said? Not much, to be honest. I was never much taken by his lauded later works - Contract with God, for example, leaves me completely cold. At it's best in those beautiful B&W Kitchen Sink magazines, The Spirit is still vibrant now, whereas much of the work of other creators from the same era just seem hackneyed and ham-fisted to me.

3. Charles Schulz
Doing a post & run to get in under the deadline.
*edit* Now I have time to add a comment. But again, others have sung Schulz' praises already. I'll just note that Peanuts paperbacks were the first comic strip collections I ever saw, and I still own the ones my family had fifty years ago.
