Ms Dynamite Jones has hit a snag - in that I can't get the joke to work - it'll come so; while I wait for the gag to mature (and while I'm waiting for a writer to get back to me with rewrites for something we are doing for an anthology) I've started bashing out a different adventure featuring another member of the League of Nude Superheroes. A female one. This is the pencil for page five which I did today in fits and starts as I was passing the drawing table between doing the housework. I'm kind of chuffed with it - especially as I did the whole page without any referencing at all.

Nice Sketches and loved the details and the motions that goes into it. Thank you, it was nice to find myself drawing something dynamic for a change. One of those pages where I thought, "I'm starting to understand how this stuff works." Quite often my strips are two people talking at one another until they get to a punchline - in this one something actually happens!

The Nude Superheroes thing has turned into a marathon. I may get a whole book out of it. Other stuff I've been doing has been for other people, inclusion in anthologies, or being to submitted to my ususl rejectors... But THIS turned up on my drawing board the other day in an idle moment. I think that's all that's going to happen with it but it made all three of my kids laugh, which is a rare thing. Aquabat! by liam, on Flickr

Based in a true thing that happened. I arranged to meet my wife down at our village's only coffee/tourist information shop and arrived to find that Alan Cumming had just left. So I drew a strip about it for her birthday. This is a revised version with my wife looking more like my wife (bonkers hair colours and all) than she did in the original.

This is priceless Junkmonkey! Thank you. I'm not sure quite what happened to the colour in page three - something I'll have to fix. (One of the drawbacks of only having the early hours of the morning to work on things without interruption is that I am usually so damn tired I can't see straight. I finished the first version at 4 am and managed to sleep through her finding it on her bedside. and also most of the kids' Saturday morning schedule - which meant she spent her birthday driving them about the place while I enjoyed the long lie in I had promised myself I would giver her!) Hmmm... maybe I could get a... where's my sketchbook?

Here's a lesson.
So there I am sitting idly drawing fan art crap for a con we're going to soon. My Geek characters decided to keep me company and started a heated debate in my head about whether Wonder Woman would shave her armpits or not. I was drawing Wonder Woman at the time and seriously considering giving her some serious under-arm hair (I'm European; I like women to look like mammals not plastic dolls). After a few minutes I stupidly typed, "would wonder woman shave her armpits" into the nearest search engine and got over 470,000 results.
Any possible joke died stillborn on the spot.
New rule of thumb. Write the joke, THEN do the research.

Some of the aforementioned fan art crap. I don't like doing fan art. It feels like cheating and very unsatisfying - though I will admit to having had fun with the Big Barda one. I have a soft spot for Big Barda. My first (and possibly, now I come to think of it, only) comic book crush from when I was a kid.
