btw, have you ever done s'boards in the WB style? No I haven't. I mostly write and edit. I have had no formal training in art, but I do sketch a lot of do drawing exercises to work on my weaknesses (things like perspective, especially perspective). I can see in my head how I want a story laid out or more accurately one way the story could be laid out, so I occasionally do layouts/breakdowns like you saw, but I struggle to execute those layouts into full drawings still. I did get offered a penciling gig by a self-publishing writer who had the table next to mine at a Indy creator expo I was doing when I was working on a sample page for a story of mine because the traffic was so slow that day, and he liked what he saw, which was flattering, but if I were to put the time and effort into pencilling something, it would be one of my stories, not someone else's. -M

On the other hand if you NEVER look at a piece of work you have done and think, "That's shit; I can do better than that!" you'll never grow. I was looking through a folder full of stuff I drew last year and I don't think there was a single piece I didn't find embarrassingly bad. Some of the jokes were ok but the art? Oye!

Got stuck in town today. Three hours waiting for a bus back to my village because I missed the previous one by five minutes. (The joys or rural life.) Three hours sat nursing a cup of coffee and doodling in my sketchbook... this is one of the least awful things I drew:

I have no idea why I think this is funny - but it made me laugh long enough to draw it. Not the greatest drawings in the world, but I'm slightly chuffed I did it all without photoreferencing anything. 97% of it came straight off the pencil without me having to look at anything other than the paper I was drawing on. The other 3% was getting my daughter to stand holding her head, as in panel 8, so I could draw her because something wasn't working in the first three or four times I did the panel.

That's it. I'm done drawing nurses for a bit. Back to the space babes...

Here's one I did for an open call for submissions to an anthology about Jeremy Corbyn. It didn't get picked up. Warning. British politics ahead...

For a silly little gag this one took a stupidly long time to draw. (And why Jet needs a helmet and Betty doesn't? is a very good question I have only just asked myself...)

Really. That's a true story. (I just rearranged the facts a bit to make it read better.)

Thanks. It had me giggling for days. I always think if you don't find your own jokes funny... Apologies for the lack of 'I Made This's recently but I've been slogging away getting real physical paper comic Derek #2 ready for the printers - a lot of time colouring previously black and white comics and redrawing some of the older stuff because it looked like shit. and working up a few home-printed mini comics to fill up the table at a local con we're attending next week. As soon as I get some time, I'll get an Etsy shop together. Meanwhile I'm also working on a 6 page strip for an anthology - to someone else's script for the first time ever - and a stupid one page doodle I did the other night has sprawled into (so far) 7 pages of pure silliness.

Love the fake UK import price stamp on the cover of Derek #2. Good attention to detail.

Not actually finished anything for days. Drawn a lot, written a few but not actually FINISHED anything. So tonight, after getting a prompt from my daughter and a bit of serendipity on the bookshelves...

This one is for my Number Two Daughter who knew that, "McTavish's hair was ginger - even when she was in black and white". (and yes, I know about the typo in panel 6...)
