Your going to go all the way to Infinite Crisis? Damn, that'd be a pretty epic thread... like... 500 pages at least All of Justice League International, America, Europe, Quarterly, the annuals, Can't Believe it's Not the Justice League, Formerly Known as the Justice League, Countdown to Infinite Crisis, and Generation Lost. I think that should pretty much cover the basics. Roughly 100 reviews, maybe. I'm already more than 10% in. The Justice League series you're working on now run, through various incarnations, to #113. Europe/International runs to #68. Quarterly was 17 issues. Formerly Known as.. ran 6 issues, plus 6 issues of JLA Classified for Can't Believe... And Generation Lost was 24 issues.
Not even counting the Annuals, Countdown, and any strays I missed, that's over 230 comics. Unless you're cutting some of those runs short, you're probably not 10 percent done.

This one also feature a bwahahaha Giffen/Maguire nugget : It's a really funny one, but totally self contained if you know the characters just a little. Synopsis: Booster Gold and Blue Beetle take on the mouse that "ambushed" Guy Gardner... and brother, it ain't pretty!

In my book, you should focus on the Bwahaha run, which goes like this : Justice League/Justice League International/Justice League America #1-52 (technicly till #60, but you can feel that with those last issues, editorial had taken over), Annuals 1-5, Special 1, Quaterly #1-4 (the remaining 13 issues have nothing to do with Giffen or DeMatteis). JLA Classified : #4-9 Formely Known As #1-6 JLA 80-Page Giant (1998) 75 issues. Justice League Europe is IMHO a very different kind of book (and not that good), but if included, that's another 35 issues plus 2 annuals (or 10, as DeMatteis only wrote 10 of those)... And are Countdown to Infinite Crisis and Generation Lost really necessary? Are those any good or even in the same spirit?

That's pretty much the run I have now (plus the Justice League Europe issues) Countdown is important, even if what it did sucked butt. The few issues I read of Generation Lost were fantastic. I enjoyed them far more than anything I'd read from the original run, and that was what originally inspired me to begin assembling a run from the beginning all those years back.

Alright, I'll be reading those then, as I have no idea how htose are, if even in the same tone. Also, I only hear really good things about JLA 3000 and 3001, also from Giffen and DeMatteis...

Please tell me more.

There's 91 issues of JLI/JLA before Zero Hour (which seems like a pretty natural break to me.. after that you have the League splintered)...JLE has 50.. then all the other stuff.... unless you're stopping after Breakdowns.. that might be about 100. Edit: OK, I see now there's a discussion. I think you should at least go up to Breakdowns...it's not all Giffen, but it's all the same story.... that's JLA #60 and JLEurope #36... there's not really a clear jump on/jump off after that before Zero Hour.. and, IIRC, that really a big change after that. Also, there may be a few Guy Gardner issues you want...I feel like at least one storyline leaked into his title. Whatever good things you heard about Justice League 3000 were wrong, it's horrendous.

I would go through the end of Breakdowns for JL:A amd JL:E as it resolves a lot of the plots, everything gets wrapped up and Kevin Maguire stops by as well.
Then comes the Jurgens/ Superman era and that might be better off in the Post-Crisis Superman thread when you reach that point.
For me, Justice League 3000/3001 has been an utter catastrophe that I finally dropped. (judging by the sales, mine is the majority opinion)

Keep this quote in mind as we go through this series. "Why do you think I kept the League ineffectual for years?" Max Lord Countdown to Infinite Crisis (2005) Ah yes, the crossover for those who hate the JLI... It was a "one shot."

Because I like you, I'd suggest stopping with the Giffen era. After that it got pretty bad, pretty fast. If you limit it to the Giffen issues, you should at least enjoy most of it.
Going with the "Giffen JL" title seems like a good solution.

Glad to know I am liked Considering this further, if the events of the non-Giffen issues generally aren't referenced later on, I could probably justify keeping the title of this thread and skipping those issues. It's a rare situation when one creative team defines a series, takes off for a long stretch, comes back, and defines it again. In such a circumstance, maybe what happened in between "doesn't count". So did anything particularly important happen after Giffen?
