I loved this line by Qui-Gon Jinn in the Aurorient Express, "You must learn Obi-Wan, as I did from my own master, the the true moral value of an act can be calculated by weighing the spirit of the motivation against the benefit of the result." He's of course talking about Count Dooku, and although not canon I always thought the prequels would have been better if Dooku wasn't actually a Sith but actually just an unwitting pawn that actually thought he was doing the right thing and a quote like this one makes it seem like it could have fit.

I finished with a total of 188 comics read for July. I ruined my computer and lost most of my files so I was unable to provide exact numbers. But I binge read Teen Titans (2003) from 24-86. Read some nice Kamandi from 20-30.

Binge read the Greg Wright/Denys Cowan redesign of Deathlok for issues 1 through 15 this weekend. Dwayne McDuffie had a hand in this i believe as he and Wright were co-writers of the 4 part mini-series and Wright wrote in the series on and off during the second year on. Wright and Cowan had a nice cohesive concept they built upon and were creating. A bit too heavy/reliant on co-stars with trying to make Deathlok a star of the current Marvel universe but the co-stars were part of showing the then current kill/crazy trend and how this 'Lok was inhabited by a pacifist who would rather use his heart and brains to win over taking the easy road and killing.
I truly enjoyed the first 15 issues but once Cowan left on art the series became an ongoing mess of unappealing art (all relative new comers) and even more guest stars and the series lost it's vision and became unpleasant in story and art.

The only things I read in June and July that I would call favorites were re-reads of Preacher and Slaine: The Horned God. Read some other decent stuff. I gave the DC Rebirth titles a shot and I think they were pretty mediocre.
Black Road is a decent read but I find a Moorish female blacksmith a character in a Viking comic a rather unlikely character. I'll give Wood a bit of leadway to see if it's explained a bit better, but seems a stretch either way.
The collection of Leviathan from 2000 AD was a good and stylistic read. I kind of wish there was a bit more, as it really seemed like just a quick introduction to a world that had a quite a bit more there to explore. It has me curious on Ian Edgington and D'sraeli's take on War of the Worlds that they did for Dark Horse.
Slowly making it through the Stray Bullet's omnibus a couple issues a month, it's a very unique comic even in the crime genre (which in itself is not done as often in US comics). It's pretty good and once I read it all, I'm probably going to loop back and read it again. Next time I might look up a list and read it in date order as the comic has a unique time line going back and forth.
I'm re-reading Preacher getting into the TV show. This is my third time through the series but it has been a few years. The Saint of Killer's origin was a bit different than I remembered. I'm going to finish it again.
Re-read Slaine: The Horned God and that is a great fantasy comic.

And with that I've finished reading the whole ultimate universe...well except Ultimate Fantastic Four, even with it basically being free on Unlimited I couldn't force my self to care about the FF past the first dozen issues.
On another note how is the book going with Miles Morales in the 616? They only have the first issue up on Unlimited but it seemed pretty good.

I've only read Miles in ANAD Avengers, and one crossover issue with Ms. Marvel, but he seems really generic to me. I can't say I read his Ultimate book, though, so maybe I'm missing something.

His interaction with his supporting cast was what made him fun in his Ultimate run, so I imagine that divorced from that it wouldn't be that good.

I loved this quote from Agents of Atlas #4 "Atlas Comics: Jimmy determined this was on the up-and-up too, but I still think it's a front. They only had superhero books, and all of those had cross overs so you had to buy all of them to get one damn story! Gotta be a racket. And where are the war books?"

Calling it quits for the month, as I just got my copy of "A Game of Thrones" delivered yesterday, so I am going to be diving into those five books immediately.
August was my biggest month of the year, as I reached 165 books read, but more than that, I read some absolutely amazing things that I'd never read before, all thanks to the expanded TPB section at my local library. Just this month alone, I read V for Vendetta, the first nine issues of the original Constantine series, about 75% of Sandman, two full Hellboy TPBs, and The Dark Knight Returns as my classic comic intake, as well as reading the first 20 issues of Saga.
The worst things I read this month may have been the current issues of Darth Vader, which was technically fine but incredibly boring, and Captain America: Sam Wilson, which was just miserable.

My lowest reading total (33) in all the years of participating in this club. I don't know why. My computer died at the end of June, and ,maybe my heart wasn't in it.
anyway
I enjoyed the Thanos Rising mini series and a few of the Fourth World issues ( Mr. Miracle, New Gods , Forever People).

Well I've made a huge decision and will stop my club membership (so to speak ). Comics are amazing for folk like me with OCD tendencies, theres so much you can track if you give in to it all, and I find myself drawn to this aspect in a big way. I always have, it was a huge part of my life when I was single, and carried on into my marriage until I went cold turkey when my children arrived. The cold turkey reference is doubly apt as well, as I am quite convinced that they have been my own personal drug triggered by my addictive personality (plenty of alcoholism in the family here folks). Lately Im finding that the list has become the reason to read, and Im finding myself basing reading choices on wanting more classic numbers/less new books/more Dc/less Marvel etc etc Time to stop, I want to enjoy them for what they are again, read more novels again, watch tv again, hell I might even speak to the wife...wait where did she go ? Yeah I know, worse things out there that I could be worried about than a comic list, but hey, gotta do what I gotta do... right ??

Understand where you are coming from, there was a point where the list was the driving force for reading, meeting quotas rather than enjoying what I was doing, but I found my way past that towards the end of last year and now it has simply been a way to keep track of what I've read and where I left off on things since I skip around and rotate through a lot of things as they catch my interest rather than reading runs straight through. But this is likely the last year I track that here on the site too. You have to do what works for you, so more power to you brother. -M

No doubt I'll be back at it in a couple of months, but for now putting it aside feels right.

This year has reflected what you're saying , to a degree. I stopped trying to meet a quota also. One month I read 170 books and another 33.
