I know we have several members here planning to read Cerebus for the first time this year, as well as a lot of members who have already read it and have strong opinions on the series. I figured it made sense to give this re-exploration of the work its own place. I definitely don't feel qualified to make a formal review thread for something as rich and complex as Cerebus, but a place where we can all explore and discuss it together -- well that sounds like fun.

They're SECRET Sacred Wars.

I definitely may read it again (what I have, anyway.. I think through High Society)... I liked it at the time, but clearly Shax has a far greater opinion of it that I if HE, the master reviewer, thinks he can't do it justice!

I have the first four TPB. This may be the motivation to squeeze out $15-20 or so a month and try to read the whole series. I started buying these back in 2010-2011, so it's been some time since I have read what I own. I think I can be ready for this.

I've been feeling the urge to re-read the series, so this bit of added incentive helps. Are we talking about an issue-by-issue discussion, or one phone book at a time? By the end, we'd have to go by books, I think. But early on, each issue would give us plenty to discuss.

Maybe for a predetermined amount of time we can discuss so far into the series, giving everyone time to read but not loose out on the discussion in general because they don't have as much time to read. Say we read the first TPB for the month of January. Or we read the first 5 issues in so-so week. Or an issue a day. Though I don't know for us with the TPB how to determine the end of an issue. (I don't remember the format of the TPB where if it gives the reader any indication.)

I've been contemplating a re-read/read of Cerebus. So I'm in if I can manage to keep up.

I was kinda picturing people commenting as they read stuff.... I don't really remember how dense each issue is, but I do feel like the phonebooks are divided by issue... I'll have to check after work (if no one else does in the meantime)

It's all new to me. Maybe I should avoid this thread in order not to be spoiled out of existence.

Isn't Sim releasing new, remastered, collected editions?

February: Cerebus #1-25 April: High Society June: Church & State I August: Church & State II October: Jaka's Story December: Melmoth Once the month in question rolls around, discussing any part of the tpb is fair game, beginning to end. So those looking to avoid spoilers could read one month ahead. Would this work for everyone?

But I've only actually read half of the first one. I make frequent use of the volumes, though. An unfilled comic box can be bad for the comics, so I pad partially empty comic boxes with Cerebus trades for filler.

OK, I'll keep my comments to myself until February.
On a related note, I just took my phonebook trade down from the man-aerie (otherwise known as the attic) and I realize that there's a squiggle that isn't built into the cover on it.. it doesn't look like 'Dave Sim', though...it's really pretty much a large squiggle anyone have his signature? I'd post a pic, but my laptop is being squirrelly about the battery today, and I don't want to jostle it around.
