Love me some Herculoids. The only one of these that doesn't really work for me is Scooby Doo. A fresh coat of paint on an older franchise can be good, but not if it's covering up what made it work in the first place.

I really can't afford to add more singles, but if they're collected in trade I'll try at least Future Quest and maybe Scooby and Flinstones (I never saw Whacky Racers as a kid, just Laff-a-lympics).

About 2/3 of the DC line was $2.99 and the big books (Batman Superman, JL, etc.) were $3.99-the $3.99 books originally had extra pages but that disappeared. Now it looks like all of DC will be $3.99 and the big books bi-weekly, so the $2.99 price point will disappear. Marvel has been at $3.99 for a while, but you do get a free code for a free digital copy when you purchase a Marvel book, if you want the digital code with a DC book you have to pay an extra buck for the combopack edition-which was only offered on the $3.99 books, making them $4.99 instead. There are a few $2.99 indy books (Image, etc.) a handful of $3.50 books form Image and Dark Horse, but $3.99 is the standard pricepoint all around, though $4.99 is creeping in in places. -M

Looking at various trade paperbacks Saga Vol. 5 clocks in at 6.6 cents a page. Batman (Snyder) Vol. 6 clocks in at 5.4 cents a page. New Avengers (Hickman) Vol 3 11 cents a page. Marvel actually seems to be pretty expensive for trades. Keep in mind these numbers are from Amazon with free shipping. Not that there is any way I could buy new comics without getting them shipped to me...the closest comic book store is at least 70 miles from me. But even if I could I don't think I could justify the cost. Not when I can trade wait and get the story for a third to half the cost buying new.

But even if I could I don't think I could justify the cost. Not when I can trade wait and get the story for a third to half the cost buying new. The only 2 monthly books I get are direct print subscriptions for the same reason. I do Dr. Strange which was 40% off cover price for the 12 issue sub, and Heavy Metal which was 45% off cover when I renewed for 2 years (12 issues). HM is normally $7.99 an issue for 112 pages (which is 7 cents a page), at the sub price it works out to $4.39 an issue (or 3.9 cents per page). Dr. Strange works out to $2.39 an issue or 11 cents per page, still pricey but better than a normal monthly. The monthly format at full cover plus having to travel to get them is just not a cost-effective means of acquiring entertainment for me. I do subscribe to Marvel Unlimited, which I do feel is a value for the cost, and I only choose to buy things I want to support for whatever reason outside of that model now, mostly in trades, rarely as monthlies. -M

Playing Catch Up and I'm good as game ... I'll be in first in line to buy them at my Comic Book Store and definitely getting the whole caboodle!

If you're willing to buy used, you can get for less and in pretty good shape sometimes. I can't go into Half Price Books without coming out with something comic-related.
