I saw Van Helsing in the theater. I felt like I got my money's worth. Can't say that about every movie I've paid to see.
Cei-U! I summon an afternoon's entertainment!

I must refrain from watching that clip because I think I'll try to watch the whole movie sometime later this month.

I watched Van Helsing on home video and wasn't exactly wowed, but not annoyed, either. Just kind of.....eh. I liked the concept but thought the execution needed work. The Mummy was a hell of a lot more fun. I was expecting more from Sommer.
Now Mary Reilly, with Julia Roberts....I got in free, as the guest of a friend who worked at the theater and still felt like I had been short changed. John Malkovich, too, though more Roberts. Just a bad film from people who should have known better. Her attempt at an Irish accent made Dick Van Dyke look like Michael Caine.

I really enjoyed Van Helsing. I even have the DVD some where in the house. It was my first encounter with Kate Beckinsale.

I've heard that Universal was intending on making Van Helsing a franchise and I am curious to know how they would have developed the series further had the first film done well

I cannot eat food that is still moving.
But I'm fascinated how they chow down octopus, either in full (served alive) or hacked into pieces but still moving on the plate.
Wow.
There, I said it.

I like both octopus and squid but not raw and definitely not alive.

Almost every novel should have maps, not just fantasy novels. If I'm reading Charles Dickens, a nice detailed map of London helps situate me in the story and helps me picture the goings to and fro of the various characters. Even a James Bond thriller can be enhanced by a few maps, as I discovered when (re-)reading Moonraker last month and looking up something else online (what Bond's car looked like). In short, I want more maps!
There, I said it.

I really enjoyed Van Helsing. I even have the DVD some where in the house. It was my first encounter with Kate Beckinsale. I first saw her in Cold Comfort Farm. Nothing I have seen her in after that featured a performance even remotely close to that level. She has quite a pedigree, as her father starred in Rising Damp and Porridge, two classic 70s tv series, and her mother was also an actress and appears in an episode of Ripping Yarns. Sadly, her father, Richard Beckinsale, died relatively young, from a heart attack.

I think I've only seen her in Underworld and the sequel, but she was good in those. Didn't know she was in Van Helsing - but Queen Victoria?!

I like that the film had every Famous monster. True, but I’ll take The Monster Squad over Van Helsing any day.

True, but I’ll take The Monster Squad over Van Helsing any day. I never heard of the Monster Squad. Old movie ? 80's maybe 90's? To me it's like a Universal monsters Goonies. Neither movie I cared for but my wife likes them. Maybe it was because I didn't grow up watching them so it's just another kid's movie.
