I thought that Titanic was okay. I was shocked that it was the highest grossing movie for a time. I was even more shocked when Avatar supplanted it! "Dances with wolves" with Smurfs just didn't work for me.

Avatar OTOH I have seen and enjoyed very much: a big, sweeping SF epic with a visual flair that went beyiond the 3D gimmick; also, I would contend, one of the better ERB-style "planet romances" that's been done onscreen - superior in this respect to the Disney John Carter movie, IMO.
It does suffer from some of the same problems as Burroughs's own stories, especially the whole idea of the civilised/Western/European/American/white male hero acting as saviour to the primitive and/or helpless natives. It has other flaws too: it's overlong and overblown in the usual Cameron vein, and the heavy-handed delivery of an otherwise important message works against itself to some extent.
But in spite of all that I still enjoyed the experience of seeing Avatar in the theatre, so the good points must have outweighed the bad for me.

Yeah, I didn't understand all the the love that Avatar got. It was a really underwhelming story and the script was excruciatingly bad at times.

The point of Avatar was being a technological marvel and visual spectacle, and in showcasing then-new tech, it succeeded. It was breathtaking and immersive (unless you were one of the people it made physically ill). That said, that is ALL it had going for it. Other than seeing it the first time in IMAX 3D, I have zero desire whatsoever to revisit it, and am floored there was even one sequel, let alone how many are in the works. And obviously I'm not saying even that should be enough for some people, and I get why a lot of people don't like it. I just also get why it was a cultural fad at the time. And that is what it was, just a fad.

I haven't been to a theater since Spider-Man 3.
There I said it.
Not that SM3 had anything to do with it, since my sister-in-law was the one that bought my wife and I a ticket to see it. And before that I think it was District 9, which we ended up leaving shortly into it because it was making my wife motion sick with the way the film was shot. I mostly feel going to a theater is much like going to someone else's house to watch a movie. I'd rather stay at home with the comforts that come with it. And save some money.

And not have to deal with rude people talking throughout the movie, whipping out their phones, walking back and forth in front of you.... being able to pause to go take a leak, etc.

The last recent movie that I saw in theaters was Jordan Peele's Get Out. A bunch of people from work wanted to see it so we carpooled there

Last film I saw in the cinema was a beautifully scrubbed up, restored version of Fellini's La Dolce Vita - but then I'm a pretentious wanker, it's the sort of thing I would do.

I haven't seen anything at the cinema since March but I have bought a ticket for a showing of Citizen Kane at a small local theatre near here on Thursday. Haven't seen it for decades and never on the big screen, so I figured this was the time to take the plunge.

Those A.I. that tailor click-bait ads are very bad at Geography. The only snakes we have in Quebec are small garter snakes, and the only risk with them is that one might step on them and feel guilty. There! I said it.

Haven't been to a theater since Iron Man.
The first one.
Can't stand modern theaters, can't stand ticket prices, can't stand the idiots who won't shut up, have no desire to see 70% of what Hollywood releases, and my spouse can't physically sit in a theater for 2 hours.
Way better to watch them at home, especially since her son bought her a ridiculously large tv. That first night we watched Michael Keaton in The Founder, about Ray Kroc. Way better than a theater.

Seems to me the answer would depend on which particular man from Quebec you ask and how much he knows about snakes!
