Very uneven films, but the high points are absolutely legendary. It's good to be the king... Torquemada and the Spanish Inquisition is sheer song parody perfection. A bunch of us would dance along singing it at school. Well, I didn't expect that!

I seem to have slipped into a time warp. Rural areas lag behind cities with any new technology. My parents did not get their first landline until the 1960s. Even now it's tough getting decent internet access. I just read an article that where I live 25% of residents have no access to reliable high speed internet.

Which is ridiculous.

I keep $20-60 in my wallet. 95% of the time I don't need it. But there are some occasions like a roadside stand where they only take cash. Or I don't feel like using a card for something less than $5. Or the card machine is on the fritz at a store. Im irrationally irritated by the younger generations that pay for a $1 coffee with a card. Seriously you don’t even have a dollar on you?!?! 🤣 Not just a generational thing. I'm in my 60s and 95+% of the time, no, I don't have any cash on me at all.

Well guys and gals once again coming here is great. I’m not in the best place in my mind and heart right now. And I’m terrible at articulating it to the person I need to say it to. But y’all’s response to my posts has made me laugh. Thanks again for this community

I remember, back in my mid-teens, we were in Georgia (3 of us) and stopped at a nice diner to grab a bite.
My mum asked the cashier if they'd accept a traveller's cheque and he said sure. So we had a nice big dinner, then it was time to pay.
Cashier wasn't sure how to enter it. They called the supervisor. She played around with it and wasn't sure either. They called a manager. He came out in a suit and pressed a few things and he wasn't sure either. He had to make a call, and thanked us for bringing it to his attention and told us dinner was on the house.

Even after a year of wearing a mask I still have to stop myself for asking for my change in "unmarked bills". I could never be a superhero. Not because I am old fat and out of shape. I have a hard time wearing a mask all day. When I would go into a grocery store and forget my mask they would give me a paper bag to wear over my head. Funny they used to do this before the pandemic. So. . who was this? (who apparently deleted account while I was taking a break)?

I don’t trust tech. Because of some embarrassing few times it’s put me on the spot. I use my card mostly as some have mentioned due to Covid. But I always keep at least $100 cash in my wallet as backup. I almost never use cash and rarely have it, but this is still good practice that I should really do more consistently. Same, I spend hard cash too fast when I have it, but I'm much more restrained when it comes to my debt card. I almost always know how much I have and where I spend it and if I don't, I can check the app on my phone

How can anyone seriously argue that access to the Internet isn't up there with electrical power?

Internet is still treated how it is because people that are in a higher seat of power don't care to understand how it works and for some reason trust the companies that provide it to self-regulate how they see fit. Look up "net neutrality" when you get a chance, you're in for a hoot

Oh, I know.
All you need to know about net neutrality is to see who opposes it.

Over here, we have different providers competing for the same regions, so we got some pretty decent packages and incentives to remain with ours. I'm hoping to be bumped up to 300 mbps soon.

Look up "net neutrality" when you get a chance, you're in for a hoot It's also because many of those same people are woefully out of touch with how fast society is progressing. They don't recognize that people, especially younger folks, don't want things like overpriced pre-packaged cable TV services or land telephone lines. Their frame of reference is so outdated, they still think of Internet service as some newfangled technology instead of understanding that is is absolutely vital to getting by in the 21st century.

I think it's simpler and more cynical. The entrenched players make more money the way it is, so they don't want to change it, so they throw their weight (read: money) around at politicians to keep it as such.
I agree that it's absurd that high-speed internet isn't considered a utility in 2021. My choices SUCK where I am because there is no true competition, and a couple key players are the only choices. It needs to be open competition for everyone with no local exclusivity anything OR (and preferably) regulated like a utility. Not to speak too kindly of Tennessee*, but one thing at least Chattanooga did well is they have a municipal city-provided gigabit internet service that is reliable and affordable for everyone. That's what I'm talking about!
AT&T is the only provider I think that even offers gig in my area, and you have to pay through the nose to get no data cap, AND they don't even run the gig to my half of the neighborhood! If I lived a dozen houses over, I could get it were I not vehemently opposed to giving AT&T money.
I digress. We had a few $20s we got out right before or at the beginning of the pandemic. They were clipped onto the fridge for the better part of a year, and I think we eventually deposited them at the drive through ATM.
* This is not political. I just don't like Tennessee. Not sure why. Nashville is pretty cool, I suppose.
