If I had been forbidden to marry by small-minded people for decades and suddenly had the right to, I would certainly display my marriage licence. Living in a very tolerant society and being part of the bland majority that never gets annoyed by anyone, my wife and I do not. In fact, I don't even think we have one... I think here the mention that we're married just gets added to our government files and that's it. Like others have said, I never had to fight for the right to a marriage license, so ours isn't displayed, it's in the lock box with the other important papers.
But, if I'd had to fight for it, I might have just posted it right on my front door to make a point. But that might just be me. My wife says I'm weird that way.

No but that's because my folks were object to premarital sex. I was wife my wife about 2 months before we officially got married in a Missouri court house. I am sure they know by now, but they still send an aniversary card to us on the false married date.

My marriage license is in a fireproof safe, with birth certificates, Social Security cards, and assorted insurance and warranty papers.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I'd argue against displaying it.
As most have written here, it's a piece of paper that they don't display (or even know where it is, in some cases). Maybe it's because we take it (the right to get married, not the marriage itself) for granted, and as heterosexuals, we didn't have the government telling us we couldn't get married, but are you putting it there as a symbol of your love and marriage or as a reminder of the struggle and wait to get married? If it is the latter, do you want to dwell on that past pain and frustration, or would you rather focus on the future you and Nick have together?
Also, there's really no need to advertise the fact you're married at the door. Folks coming into your home should know that you are married, and if they don't, you can easily reference your husband, marriage, or wedding as a normal part of conversation to get them up to speed. I don't know any hetero couples who'd been living together before marriage putting their license up to show that their pairing was now officially sanctioned by the government, which is pretty much where you are now.
I certainly don't want to minimize what you and Nick had to endure to get to this point, but maybe a way to have your marriage, and gay marriage as a whole, be seen as "normal" is to treat it like hetero couples do and not make a big deal out of the piece of paper. At the end of the day, it's your decision to hang it or not, but I would suggest to display your marriage through your love for one another, not through a license issued by the government.

A Jewish marriage certificate is called a 'ketubah' and is usually done as a work of art, and displayed. I had mine drawn by Steve Leialoha (who is Jewish, as it happens) and it's framed and hanging in the bedroom.
