I'm sure there are many 'classic' Batman readers who never read that book (including me) and would sooner pick one of their classic books from years gone by. But maybe I should get my hands on it now.

Surely the best Batman book of all time was the run that had "The Underworld Olympics of 1976"?

I never really got into Gothham Knights but that issue does sound good.

I think I'm going to need to read more from this run, I bought Gotham Knights #32 on Comixology and #1 because it was free and both were pretty solid. I don't know if they'd crack my top ten best of Batman list but they were fun none the less.

I quite like that series (and used that cover in a recent cover contest). It had some really good B&W back-ups, and the main stories kept a strong character focus, keeping Batman's relationship with others in his life (Nightwing, Aquaman, etc) as the centerpiece. The art is really good. The Bolland covers are awesome. I enjoyed basically every issue.
But no, nothing from that series is the best Batman comic ever. That's absurd. There have been thousands of Batman comics. To even call one the best ever is questionable. But if there is one, it's not that.
But it is a good comic. And that's a good essay about it.

Objective best? Yeah, there is probably no solid number one answer. But on a personal level? I can think of a few that I go back and forth on which is the best.

My personal favorites are the Batman stories from Detective Comics 27-37, Batman Year One, Gotham by Gaslight, and the 2 Batman Black and White minis (one in the 90s, the other a few years back). Other than that, I think I prefer Batman: TAS to any printed Batman story in comics form, though there are a lot more Batman comics I like. Whether anyone else would consider any of those the best Batman comic is up to them, but then we all have our own criteria for what makes a comic best.

I remember Legends of the Dark Knight fondly, especially the first 20 issues. It really came out of the gate strong: Shaman, Prey, Gothic then Venom.

Devin Grayson has been the only female writer for Batman so far?
Did-not-know-that. Which is a shame unto itself.
Title sounds interesting, but I've never read it. I remember how they did split up the focus of the different Bat books at the time. I was more into reading Rucka on Detective for his focus on the mystery/detective side of Batman.

Nah, Ann Nocenti has also written Batman. My personnal favorite Batman comic ever is this one : Self contained, beautiful, dark, tells all you need to know about Gotham and gives a great take on the shadowy presence of Batman, both percieved an actual.

In recent years haven't Marguiritte Bennett and Becky Cloonan written Batman stories as well? I think Bennett did an annual and Cloonan did art with Snyder but I thought she did some stuff elsewhere in the line as writer as well.
