I'd hate the 80s too if it weren't for all the other decades I've lived in since 1969.

How are these not awesome?! I wasn't even born when those two albums came out and I thought they were awesome when I was in my late teens, let alone in yours! I still think they're pretty great records...especially the Iron Butterfly one. And "getting it together in the country, man" with some winsome hippie chicks and a shed load of pot sounds great (though the reality may be a bit different, I'll grant you). Shame on you for betraying your hippie generation, Hal. Let your freak flag fly, brother!

The Captain Harlock cartoon (Albator, for the French-speaking posters among us) was a lot more exciting when I was young that now. It still looks good, but man... It's soooooooooo sloooooooooooow!
Space 1999's corniest episodes have only gotten cornier. (The best ones still rule, though).
Kiss... well... Those guys didn't play very well back in the '70s, did they?
Elephant leg pants? I wore those? I liked those? Please kill me!
Lycra turtlenecks with a peace-and-love logo zipper? Kill me even deader!!!

The He-Man cartoons did not hold up well. I watched a few on youtube a couple of weeks ago, and wow. I mean, some of them held up. But the one where Adam meets Cringer for the first time?& Nope. Very few 80's cartoons solely made to market toys to impressionable children actually hold up against modern scrutiny. Centurions is probably among the handful that have actually aged well And I'm going to say nu-metal, as there were very few bands and songs that were good

When I was a kid I thought the concept of Hard rock/Heavy Metal was exciting before I even heard it. Thankfully, I realized it was cheesy as soon as I started to hear it at the dawn of my teenage years. That being said, I was heavy into Patrick Ewing sneakers Still love them, but I'm not sure how I'd feel wearing those again...

You're correct, cassettes do that... and even when they don't become all tangled, their quality goes down as the tape stretches over time. They were not very sturdy. On the other hand, they allowed one to record music or voice from vinyls, CDs, the radio or from a microphone with just one push of a button. I still have to find a way to do that as easily with any other device, including the admittedly more versatile computer. Playlists are fine, of course, but I have never seen a cassette wiped out because some machine decided it was time to sync itself or because a company somewhere decided that this or that agreement was now void. I also don't have a turntable nor a radio connected to my computer, while cassette players were typically connected to all these devices by default. Yes, I love cassettes... I am ooooooold!!! Fair enough. I did not think of those things. But, I DID buy an MP3-ONLY album the other day for $15. And it was an awful feeling. Do you know how difficult it was to part with that $15 for an album I will NEVER be able to hold in my hands? For album art I'll not see? And alllll because the album is out of print in other formats. I mean, sure I could have bought an old library copy for more than double that price, but it was not worth it to me. But buying an MP3-only album is not something I am going to get into a habit of doing. I feel it cheapens me. I almost got online to buy a physical album that isn't on iTunes and then I remembered my computer doesn't even have a disc drive anymore so there's no way for me to rip the album and get it on my phone anyway. But I did just buy an album for $4

Until I realized that they basically kept releasing the same song. (Loved them at Live Earth though!)

Suposedly counter culture music signed on major international conglomerate with expensive marketing plan and expensive MTV videos, you were doomed to fail your senses if in the right target

What about sports teams you thought were awesome, maybe then were so, but have since become a laughing stock?

For me it's sit coms in general, but Three's Company and Night Court in particular. I mean, adults watched Three's Company, and thought it was good? really? Night Court I was all excited to watch on TV land a couple months back, and it was really sad. Three's Company was all about the 'jiggle'. As for Night Court, I'd have to ask if you caught an episode from either the very beginning or very end. The last couple years aren't as good, IMO. John Larroquette was always on his game, and made even the lame episodes semi-watchable. But the very last episode was awful. Season 1 had a few characters who were dropped afterwards, and the show hadn't quite figured everything out.

Seinfeld and That 70's Show are probably two of the few that I can watch constant re-runs of and never get tired. Now if we're discussing the animated variety as well, then there's probably a lot more, namely South Park

I thought 6mb/sec cable internet was awesome when I was a teen but now it's just snail pace (compared to current cable speeds) when downloading multi-gigabyte files.
Whoosh!!!

I had to subsist on dial-up until 2009 because of ethernet not being available in my area. Now I'm spoiled on 700kbs a second video and download speeds
