We didn't, but others did. Also, up till maybe the mid-70s, in at least one town nearby, you only had to dial the last four digits of a local number and not the 3-digit exchange. The town I lived in in rural Maine in 1980-1982 did that. -M Must have been a country thing.

Radio friendly ska music. What is defined as radio friendly ska? I still dig bands like Reel Big Fish.

Total awesomeness in the early 1970s-The Elgin Movie Theater on 8th Ave. in Manhattan Friday and Saturday nights starting at midnight-All Night Movie Marathons for a $2 admission 4 films usually in the cult/horror/head trip mode run back to back ending around 8AM At 5AM they would serve free coffee and a donut for people still there So many great films did I see at these marathons like John Waters and Andy Warhol films, Rock n Roll films, Dario Argento, Roger Corman, Fellini...on and on. They ran this type of program for many years with small price hikes Unfortunately home video killed these types of movie events by the early 1980s

Radio friendly ska music. Ska in general for me. The only song that survived that faze of my music listening was Royal Oil by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

That was probably during the week when they ran classic movie double features. Do you remember in the lobby they had some barber shop style chairs for people to sit on? The Elgin movie house has long been demolished Another great one was in the Village, The Waverly Theater. That's the one that ran The Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight on weekends for several years

Four digits only in my hometown till at least the mid-'80s. Ditto here in the rural Midwest. I should try dialing just four numbers now, it just might work.

What about sports teams you thought were awesome, maybe then were so, but have since become a laughing stock? Cubs made the playoffs twice as a teen after not making it there since 1945. Bears won their only Super Bowl when I was teen. Bulls drafted Michael Jordan, but did not dominate until the 1990s.

I haven't worn a tie in years but if I ever do have to wear one there's a fair chance it might be a narrow tie, since I think that's all I have left and I don't mind the way they look. I'm wearing a skinny tie right now.

Milk Chocolate. Loved it when I was a kid, now it just feels gross, fat and energy draining. But high persentage dark chocolate, maybe with some sea salt flower, now that's something to look forward, maybe with a small glass of fine whiskey.

Because I've heard that there's a very wide margin of difference between them

Yes I have, and it's along the same lines if not worse, but more hten anything, I spent some mighty good time in Brussels when I played there : the world capital of chocolate. I just can't stand it when it's that sweet and sugary...
